Not stayed there but I went in when I went a few year ago looks good.

Always remember the Vegas custom.... Tip the receptionist $1 and they upgrade your room. My friends did this when they booked at planet Hollywood and they got a suite facing the belagio fountains. Quite a bargain!!

I've stopped at 2 of the old school Vegas hotels both times I've been and found the atmosphere and vibe amazing mainly because you are on the strip. Check out the Flamingo and Golden Nugget both are good hotels, I would recommend

The Flamingo purely on the pink and black decor, its seedy but clean and safe seedy, a fraction of the price of the big hotels too

We would add Circus Circus to those. We stayed there in 2012 and nice room at $300 for a week would take some beating.

Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon (by helicopter if you can) are well worth it, Fire Canyon trip, but loads to do in Vegas from the creepy Atomic Test Museum and Pinball Hall of Fame to the Stratosphere coaster

I did this and went into the canyon...had a real ranch experience with a cowboy style meal...horse riding an option if your into horses.

we went to watch Love at the Mirage Hotel. Didnt pre book just went to the box office and got great seats for half the normal price

Norfolk

We stayed at the tropicana across the road from the mgm in November. Went to the mgm for breakfast on the first morning which was very nice.

MGM seemed okay though the casino floor was a little dated.

Stratosphere no longer has the roller coaster but there's still rides at the top and worth a visit.

Circus circus was quite poor most of the rides were for children and the roller coaster was closed. Though it does have an excellent if expensive steak restaurant.

Go across the road and go on the coaster in New York New York.

I saw "Love" at the Mirage last year. Amazing show. I have to say that I didnt like the rest of Vegas. Very tacky.

Central

Ive stayed in Luxor, New York New York, Venetian and Stratosphere. The last 3 were better, the Venetian the best. Look for deals and some of them have mailing lists for offers. Midweek is cheapest. The stratosphere put me in a great upgraded newly refurbished room that was a bargain - you dont need to stay in top dollar hotels at all. I prefered downstairs at new york, as it seemed calmer, so check some other reviews too.

I stayed in the Stratosphere. It was dirt cheap (I think about £15 a night but this was about 7 years ago) so I wasn't expecting much but it was actually fairly nice. Nothing swanky but modern and clean.

We are Vegas regulars

A $1 tip to the receptionist won't get u an eyebrow raise let alone an upgrade!!!
