Not sure if it was a IQ test as such, more a Mensa test, scraped in by the skin of my teeth. Not much fun being the dumbest person in Mensa though...

There are alsorts of tests now.Theres an EQ Test now.Shows yours what Emotional awareness you have. Probably just as important as IQ.

i am a member of mensa ..its not a good thing ...alot of people with 'genius' IQ's suffer with mental illness and a huge amount end up taking their own lives ...just look at stephen fry and the spike milligans to see how prevelent it is

They actually offered me a much better job,than the job I applied for.

Nah, tests have been carried out on all the brain training games and they don't show much, if any improvement.

Common sense, you can be the most intelligent person in the world but if you don't have any common sense you're buggered. When I started my apprenticeship we had six months of various training, then put into groups according to ability to complete training as either sparky,fitter or shipwright. The guy with the best exam results, stuck him in the storeroom.

For me, I learnt a lot more about physics etc after I left school and could see it in front of me rather than trying to learn it parrot fashion in a classroom, I did piss about much to much at school though when I went.

They test a limited type of ability, the research that developed them was discredited and people can increase their scores. So they have limited scope and do not do what they purport to do. As Abi said, the brain training software helps you get better at doing it, but does not generalise to overall intelligence or mental ability. It is a waste of money.

I took a free online test and a timed self-test from a book. 127 whatever that means. I scored highest on the verbal and logic sections, a bit less on spacial section, and less on mathematics. I do have the urge to babble a bit on these forums posts. I am also rather fond of complete grammatical sentences.

There is no absolute pass fail (mensa entrance) score, it is a sliding scale that gets higher with age (to take account of knowledge collected as we get older), but when I took my test I needed to score 158.

If you score over 120 on the "offical" iq test, then you are doing well. The test is a bit selective in that it favours individuals from western culture because of the questions. It also doesn't test for all types of intelligence - some have good spatial, some good memory and recall - so the test isn't all encompassing. I've scored 95 and 137 on two seperate occasions, I also passed Mensa's test as my late mum and I took it, but we didn't fancy paying the membership

Don't let intelligence test results make you feel inferior, like I said, it doesn't cover all the bases. Enjoy the diversity of people

I did one when I was 16 as part of a psych evaluation to help me decide on which university course to follow.

I scored 164 but was told that the margin of error at the top end of the curve was very big and that it probably didn't mean much...

I did the one on the TV with Philip Schofield.....not sure it was the most scientific but I beat all the celebrities! Can't remember the score but I think I was 99th percentile - not sure they are a great measure of intelligence, have come across people with brains the size of planet Mars who could design a rocket to get them there, but have no common sense and you certainly wouldn't want a beer with them. So I don't take too much notice of them but probably because I'm a bit weird, I have enjoyed taking them in the past, the Mensa ones in particular.

Field Marshal Jam Doughnut offered one about how his grandfather led a battalion against a German division during World War I.

The story went…..

Through brilliant manoeuvres, he defeated the enemy and captured valuable territory. After the battle he was presented with a sword bearing the inscription "To Captain Jam Doughnut for Bravery, Daring and Leadership during World War I.

Captain Custard looked at Field Marshal Jam Dougnut and said, "You really don't expect anyone to believe that yarn, do you?"

What is your definition of highest?

If your definition is highest point above sea level then it is Everest as recorded. However if your definition is the point furthest from the centre of the earth then it is Chimborazo in Ecuador.

Mensa score higher than a standard IQ test, it's a paid club, so they want you to feel better about yourself!

Your IQ should remain fairly consistent throughout your life, with no great spikes or troughs, regardless of your age.

And as was said in the previous post, more than +3 SD is considered to be 'abnormal' and as likely to lead to mental and social problems as -3 SD!

Take a genius and someone at the other end of the scale, put them both in a standard UK classroom and chances are they'll both be equally as disruptive!

Is that why I am a manic depressive? Sorry not allowed call it that any more... I now suffer from rapid cycle Bipolar disorder.

I was never disruptive in class...I sat quietly looking out the window or dozing. Every now and then a new teacher would get upset and tell me to wake up and pay attention, I would tell them I was, they would demand that I tell them what they had just said and I would quote them word for word... That did seem to upset them and amuse my classmates... Maybe I was a little disruptive...

I never understand the IQ test, im not a thick person, I have several qualifications and digrees including a doctorate, yet when I did a IQ test my score was surprisingly lower than expected

If a school doesn't spot a kid with high IQ chances are he or she will be as or more disruptive than lower IQ kids because they aren't challenged in an appropriate way. Incredibly difficult for a teacher to have a class of 30 different abilities and cater for all, pretty much impossible and why I favour streaming so everyone gets to learn and be challenged at their own pace which I'm sure would lead to better school behaviour in general.

What is your definition of highest?

If your definition is highest point above sea level then it is Everest as recorded. However if your definition is the point furthest from the centre of the earth then it is Chimborazo in Ecuador.

It's Everest as by 'highest' geologists tend to mean altitude reached and Everest reaches a greater altitude than any other.

I took one and scored 141, but frankly I'd have useful attributes like recognising the M6 when I drive by it on my way to Xtasia, or to test the temperature of my bath by dipping my elbow in it, rather than sitting in it and then sounding like a monkey (ooh, ooh) as my brain all too slowly works out if it is cooling quickly enough to stick it out, or if I should jump out, try not to land on the dog and turn the cold tap on for 5 minutes.
