its not the chilli's doing the half time show... it's Bruno Mars this year.....

as for the actual game... I'd actually be more into the game if it wasn't in new york....

if the refs let the teams play... the seahawks will walk it!.. I love a really good defence and seattle's secondary is so physical I love it....

if not.. it will be a penalty fest and peyton manning will light them up...

oh and as for sport being gay? i've played both, (u19s international *puffs out chest* in rugby plus school and county) and i played high school american football in texas and played abit hear too aside from being completely different sports playing football hurts more than playing rugby even with the "gay pads", my advice is go and try playing american football theres so many teams that your probably no more than 25 miles away from one, don't tell em you think they're all pussy though

Can't see the Seahawks shutting down Manning, he's got too many options to throw to, he foes love an interception or two come the post season though! I also can't see the Seahawks scoring enough points to win this. As has been said a lot will depend on how physical the refs let the game be but these Broncos wide receivers aren't lightweights. Looking forward to it, Hopefully the weather will be fine.

Here and there

Any sport where they actually stop the game so they can show adverts on tv is just lame. If the game flowed properly and only went on for an hour and a half or so like normal sports, it would be much more watchable.

Stopping Manning will be hard! Denver have a great all round team, tough defence, offence that can run the ball and with manning's passing you have a lethal combination. Seattle's secondary are good, but they have there biggest test this year! Wilson is dymanic, brings alot of options to the table, but I can't see past Denver!

As for half time show, NFl realised Bruno Mars was not big enough so they dragged in RHCP, oh and if they attempt a Led Zep song, it will be a fucking disaster!

It' a crap sport. Bunch of men with fat arses standing around for 20 mins then making a 2 minute play. Then charge multi national companies millions of dollars to screen prime time adverts between a ridulous amount of breaks.

"Then why bother to post on a Super Bowl thread?

The thread title didn't specify that you have to post drooling comments about how wonderful american football is and the op asked if people were as stoked as himself about it, so the answer is no, most definitely not, obviously.

Since when has a thread ever been about everybody loving the subject and no one disagreeing.

Maybe next I me I'll just 'Yawn...'

‘CheeseHeads’ unite !!!! lol

Really looking forward to tonight’s game !

To expansive offensives that have their own ways of beating any decent defence !!

And two defence’s that can nullify the potencies of most teams !!

Given the choice, games that have the defence’s on top, I can’t get enough of !!

Let’s hope Coach’s Carroll and Fox have game strategies to win, compared to ‘not losing’.

Heart says the Bronco’s for Payton, for the season he’s had, and the fact that great QB’s are viewed usually only by their number of Super Bowl rings, as I’m sure Wilson will get more chances in the future.

Head says, bring it on, a great game, decided in the last few seconds by a positive play, and not by a mistake …..

The thing about rugby is generally you see what's coming for you and yiu xan prepare yourself for the hit. If you're a wide receiver running across the middle of the field attempting a catch you have absolutely no idea what's behind you and when the hits coming. Believe me I used to think the same about American football in my younger days but when you start to watch it you realise these blokes are equally as tough as other sportsmen.

I'd rather it be in a location that the weather wasn't going to play a factor.... which is why they play them in nice places or in domes....

new york got very, very lucky....where it will make it up to 50f (10 degrees) today the warmest day they have had in two weeks, it is had been earlier in the week... it would have been 20f (minus 7!)

they had a back up plan a few weeks ago where if the weather stayed really bad... it could have been put back or brought forward

I would love to see the superbowl played at Lambo Field! Think seeing the Dolphins and 49ers slugging it out in a freezing Greenbay it would be a really great game (its alway good to see southern teams on the road at Lambo in winter)!

Think that was more down to the injury lists than their ability to cope with the cold... I am a cheesehead so am biased... But I would suggest that if the Packers and 49er swapped home grounds for a season the 49ers would be looking at a record breaking bad season and the packers at a superbowl... (Same would go for any of the southern state teams.

And I agree with Fabio, its not going to happen, but not to protect the fans, to protect the players.

Why on earth does this game take so long?? Is there any need for all the breaks, without them it could actually be quite entertaining.

Sounds like my kinda sport, 5 seconds of participation then 10 mins to recover and eat a cake!

I know seahawks best team in regular season but never expected them to make broncos look so poor its so unexpected. Hope 2nd half better for broncos but now to enjoy red hot chilli peppers appear in half time show

I played rugby for couple of years there was no let up unless you were subbed you play two halves of 40 minutes with 10 minute half time was tiring

Good choice! I've never heard/seen him before but it was a very average performance & didn't look very 'live' to me.

It just looked pre-recorded, although that would be a bonus with Beyonce - cos she really cannot perform live!

The chillies were as mild as ever!

The chillies have a reputation for being a bit poor live, can't say I was impressed. Watching the game but not really understanding wtf is going on… someone's getting stuffed though.

How can a national competition compare to international ones. That isn't really a comparison. I realise it's the pinnacle of their sport, and not enough countries play it at the proffessional level they do to have a proper world cup.

Is it the top two teams in the league playing or is it like a knockout competition like the fa cup?

How do they get to the Superbowl?

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

Teams are split in to groups of six based on northern southern western.eastern teams top two go through and go through process like fa cup and play knockout rounds till the last two meet at superbowl

And the comparison is based on for these players its the biggest prize they can win in that profession where as footballers and athletes have there career in the field they also have a major tournament to take part in where as superbowl is there only major trophy available they have nothink else to win

Thanks, that's the answer I was looking for, may have worded the first question inaccurately. I'm not trying to belittle the competition. Just trying to understand the process of reaching the final.

With a cracking view

Congratulations to Seattle !!

They played well on all three sides !!

Denver ?

No first down in the first half !

Two scoring plays plays where the number of missed tackles were starting to need more fingers than one hand !!

How to help yourself lose a Super Bowl, eh ?

And it will probably now be all about what will Peyton Manning do next ...

Personally I think it's the dullest game ever ( just behind lawn green bowls), too stop start, too much hype etc but I'm guessing that sky will soon be showing it on a regular basis as they've been promoting it like crazy.

When they do I'll be cancelling my subscription ! Stupidgame.com !!

No would I heck and take it and run laughing all the way to the bank, that doesn't alter the fact it's an obscene amount of money for chucking a pig skin around, and makes footballers pale in comparison

I heard that a 30 second advertising slot during half time ( do they have a half time? It's so stop start throughout I shouldn't think they need one!) was going to cost around 2 million pounds !! No wonder they can afford to pay these stupid wages !!

Jesus how long was the half time ?

In proper football you just get time for a drink, a couple of orange segments and normally a bollocking !!

couple of things to bear in mind.....

1) that figure would be per game rather than per week... 16 week season...

2) NFL contracts are not guarenteed..... the only money guarenteed is the signing bonus... in theory they can cut you from the squad at any time

Plus the 3 post season games and probably bonuses for reaching superbowl, so your still looking at well over 20 million dollars a year,

the brilliance of the NFL and the Salary cap rules means we know what was in Manning's contract

so i dug it up.... 5yr, 96mil dollar contract.. no signing bonus... 18mil in year 1 and 2... has to pass a medical each year (bearing in mind he had significant next surgery 2 years ago....)

so they could cut him next year if he fails the medical and they wouldn't owe him a penny

and i can't believe how lucky new york got the weather... 50f at game time...

if it had been 24 hours later... game would have been played in 8 inches of snow!
