Watched Ross Kemp Extreme World last night, he was in Papa New guinea.

To say violence is prevalent there is an understatement !! However there was a scene where he went to meet someone called the general who basically ran a vast amount of area.

At one point two guys came out with guns pointing at Ross and threatening him, Ross stood his ground and even asked one where his round was in the gun ! He then turned on the other and faced him down saying " your gonna shoot me are you ? "

My question is was this a set up or was Ross being amazingly brave in their facedown ?? Im torn to be honest if it was genuine i would say he was massively brave to face them down !

It was a pretty harrowing programme and the poor lady at the end the end who had been tortured was just horrific

Not all of us

I can't say anything about his personality or whether he just looks more capable than what he is. However, it smells of a set up. He's there with a film crew, local guide/fixer and probably a security team.

Regardless of what you think of him he was in afghanistan and i watched when theywere caught in a firefight and you actually heard bullets hitting the nearby area and flying over him !!

I agree i think it was made secure and no harm would come to him but even so if you saw it there where some hair rasing moments and i personally would be shit scared with two armed blokes aiming at me and several others with large machetes !!

As to whether he's 'hard or acting' word with the squaddies was he shat himself first time he was out there but on his subsequent visits had 'manned up'

Couple this with the places he typically goes to, where the repressed and misunderstood are treated appallingly, he faces with real empathy. In Eastenders he was silly, but watching Ross Kemp on gangs I quite like.

Yes he was beaten up by his wife, but some men out there don't hit back at a woman,it is just not spoken about a lot.

You would not be able to set up anything like that in the countries he goes to, especially not Papua New Guinea. The place is riddled with violence, and you can sometimes see the fear in his face.

There was a fight in the last episode between some locals, one ended up with his arm almost hacked off....very real, nasty place to go.

Set up.

If it was for real his security team would have dealt with it and got him well out of the area.

As an asset of the programme maker, he'll be well protected in all situations. The insurance company will have set limits too.

That isn't to say he doesn't have balls to go to some of the places he goes to and to investigate some of the situations that he does.

I don't like his style of television, personally, but I respect him to an extent for what he does.

Fact remains that in the shows he has done he would of had to of had some training ( self protection , combat training etc ) So personally i wouldnt mess with him !

And i have a ton of respect for him going to those horrendous places and giving us an insight into how those far worse of than us live !

Fair play to him, for going and investigating some of the nastiest places to be. PNG is one of the scariest places to be in the world! After independence, nearly got posted there, running gun battles down Port Moresby High street, huge problem with alcohol, still some rumours of canabalism. Cape Town, huge societal problems, Jamaica, still controlled by the yardees, Central Africa, where albinos are murdered and their bones and organs used for medicine and being accused of witchcraft can mean being beaten and killed by being burnt alive. Human trafficking in this country...the list goes on...

have to remember, the amount of insurances these tv companies have to take out on the 'talent' it would NOT be in their best interests to put them in harms way, so it was most definitely a set up.

not saying the gunmen would not have done it in real life, but i can guarantee you he wasnt in any danger.

i can bet it would have been a different matter had there been any chance the program would be shown locally.

Kemp would be picking bits of gunshot out of his arse for weeks to come

Its the one and only programme of that series that I have watched - I didnt think the 'stick up' was that convincing but I agree with what you say about the rest of the programme.

What a sad, sad place it was and the inter_iew with the woman that had been tortured was truly horrific

You're confusing him with Grant Mitchell. Ross has had extensive training and is able to handle certain situations/confrontations ( from the sound of things he handled the situation in a textbook fashion). He would have been surrounded by armed security fir insurance purposes.

Deffo a set up - if it had been real then they'd have gone for the camera crew too. As people have mentioned, they would also have had a security team to deal with real situations like that.

As for the idea that you couldn't set that up due to the nature of the people in that country, I'd say that was naive in the extreme. A bit of wonga plus the kudos of being on TV would be enough to get any "General" to send his men out to act up for the camera

He's got some balls to be going to the places he's going whether or not you think he's hard. Security team or not it only takes one wrong step to drop yourself in the crap. And anyone who visits the front lines in Afghanistan instantly deserves some respect in my opinion, those particular situations are certainly not staged.

Ross was inter_iewed on the One Show and they questioned him regarding this new series. He told them that only the cameraman, himself and the guide were there. Was told before hand that if they are made to kneel down he would of been taken off, raped and torchered. So have to stand the ground.

As for the other series of being in Afghan, he became the spokesman for the guys, he said what they knew they couldn't say. He carried his own kit, went through the same hell, and was there when a friend of mine was killed. On meeting Ross in London sometime after the funeral I told him he had gained the respect of the serving forces as well the veterans, and as I told him about my friends funeral his tears began to fall.

His words to me were " I am just an actor who is abe to bring the world closer to people that have no knowledge of situations". My return reply was, you started off as an actor, but you could choose not to put yourself in harms way and stay in the "safe" zones. He then said, but that wouldn't be the full truth. So after a delightful hug and kiss on cheek and a lovely photo taken of us, we parted.

I think the question should be - "is Ross Kemp a good actor or not?" Obviously from the above posts, to some he is, because they believe he's convincing in his shows. But that's all they are. TV shows, for entertainment, and he's an actor playing a role. I've seen him play Eddie Scrooge in another show, and he was quite good in that too, but I never believed he really was Eddie Scrooge.

It's difficult to say if it was setup or not as each production company makes their programs differently. Look at America, most of their programs similar to Ross Kemp's are setup situations to up the entertainment value. We Brits tend to keep them realistic unless it's Bear Grylls.

I wouldn't exactly call his shows entertainment, unless you get off on watching how people less fortunate live, they're informative rather than entertaining, he's presenting you with information not acting in a soap.

He's an actor and by his own admission not a hard man although he does stand up for himself which is different. Usually though with programs like his they are heavily edited for maximum drama for the _iewers.
