was chatting to a lady in town holding the most beautiful 4 week old baby I assumed it was the granny but turned out she fostered the baby at 5 days old after social services removed the baby from its mother

this lady had fostered loads of kids but said this one is going to be hard cos she was so adorable

I was in awe of this lady as everyone was could you foster a child?

Yes I could but not at the moment cos the only fostering team I'd want to foster for is my own team and I can't while I still work for them.

A foster carer is a truly special person and I'm privileged to know so many and spend my days training and supporting them

My ex brother in law and wife used to foster babies straight from the hospital until they where adopted, in honestly don't know how they could do it. Takes hell of a person

Getting too attached is what you have to do it gives the child the best possible start in life and it's far easier to transfer a good attachment then a bad one but I still think that you have to be a special kind of person to do it. I still cry when my kids move on and I'm not the one who's cared for them 24/7

My friend provides emergency foster care which is supposed to be short term but often they end up staying for a couple of years....generally the children are 3 years or older at her request but she had taken in babies too.

She does an amazing job, so proud of her

closer than you think

have a couple of friends who foster, one takes newborns the other older children.

Have seen some very sad cases, newborns addicted to heroin, children malnourished and scared to bits but my friends give those children so much love and care it's admirable.

I don't know how they do it but I do know that when the children are eventually adopted, they leave well loved and cared for.

I've met some brilliant foster parents who have also gone on to adopt. If I had a bigger house yes I would. My dream is to win the lottery buy a big old mansion house and foster and adopt as many children as I could and be like old mother Hubbard.

I would love to give a child a home if I was in a position.

But it would also break my heart as I would get attached.

I have seen kids removed from their parents and they don't give a stuff.

Yet people can't have them for love nor money.

Do it then there's no discrimination against anyone doing it nowadays. I've a couple of single male adopters who are amazing
