Slimming world say you can eat as much as you want of certain foods, for example, Fried eggs, chips and baked beans, ( the chips being par boiled, spray with low cal frying oil, and baked, so not deep fried.) The reason we are fat is we eat more than we need, there is only one way to lose and maintain weight, eat less and move more. Every diet works initially, because you lose water, and any change of eating habits will bring about change to weight. Weight and weight loss or gain, is not about food, its about control, food is the one thing we have control over in our life. The majority of obese people including me, have emotional issues, until they are sorted weight will be our comfort blanket. Upbringing is also another factor, but that also to some extent comes under emotion. My parents were poor, but we always had lots of food, mostly " comfort food" | |||

And that it's acceptable to make people feel bad because they have a harder time managing their weight than others is only making matters worse. And that it's acceptable to make people feel bad because they have a harder time managing their weight than others is only making matters worse. Like you said, a lot of people have emotional issues which contribute. So yeah, tell them it's easy snd there's something wrong with them if they can't do it. That'll definitely help. If people do not know, for example, that certain combinations of food are likely to make them over-eat then they are probably doomed to fail on the eat less part. That's not over-complicating anything, it's how things are. Certain foods and combinations of foods are more likely than others to be addictive, which is certainly going to impact on your claim that we can choose what we eat. At a basic level a drug addict can not take drugs. Addressing the issue by telling them "don't do drugs" without dealing with why that might be difficult for them is not going to work. Telling fat people "eat less and move more" without educating them about how they are likely to be able to do that successfully is similarly likely to fail. Yes, it was the favourite doughnut on both sides of the atlantic - and the one most near the 'perfect' evil 50/50 fat/sugar ratio which apparently is the most addictive, and most easliy turns us into walruses!! Rats offered unlimited fat OR sugar did not overeat dramatically or gain much weight, but when offered a 50:50 mixture of both ie cheesecake, they pigged out and piled on the pounds." Wow! But it does make sense. I raised the doughnut earlier in a lighthearted way. I don't think I could eat unlimited doughnuts - one is usually fine - but I could possibly have a doughnut earlier in the day and then have cheesecake later. I'm doomed to be a walrus. | |||

" No, it just means I have to cut out refined sugar completely and cut carbs down to a minimum. It's a genuine addiction just like any other. I mean it when I say I can't do moderation. I literally can't, exactly like an alcoholic can't have one drink. I can go cold turkey and go without sugar and with minimal carbs for months but one piece of cake and it all goes pear-shaped. Well, apple-shaped in my case, actually. In fact, to lose weight I do need to cut out sugar and cut carbs right back. Nothing else works for me. The first few weeks of the cold turkey are a bitch though and I've yet to last more than 4 months without falling off the wagon. | |||

It's absolutely possible to live, and be healthy, on minimal amounts of carbs, long term. The body has other metabolic pathways to produce energy. Fats are essential though. | |||
