Right......before people start, I am in ending to get medical advice on this but I'm bored at the moment so thought I'd ask you lot as well.

I have had indigestion pretty much every day for the past 3 weeks. my mum and grandad both have a hiatus hernia so obviously I'm thinking along those lines.

I'm eating Rennie and peppermints to keep it under control. Don't like gaviscon!! Any old wives tale remedies I could try?

Somewhere in North Norfolk

Try some ranitidine, (zantac in shops, usually).

Your GP can prescribe omeprazole or similar if that doesn't work.

I have a hiatus hernia. The tablets the doctor gave me when the acid reflux was bad made me sick. Experiment to see what is worse for you to eat. I can't eat bananas and have to limit bread and pastry. Milk is very good before bed for me if I'm acidy

They are prescription only.

Ranitidine is my best over-the-counter suggestion.

Dairy exacerbates my indigestion.

Drink tonic water and old Jamaica ginger beer. Sit down to eat all meals, don't rush your food or rush to get up afterwards. Avoid fatty and possibly spicy foods. Avoid too much citrus and fruit juice.

And see if you can get some Gastrocote. You usually have to ask for it at the pharmacy but it's a generic equivalent to gaviscon without the flavorings and is much more palatable. I get the tablets and they are very easy to take, just crunch after each meal with a glass of water. And cos they're just chalk you can take them as you need them. They're more palatable than rennies too.

My mum used to give me a tea spoon of grinded caraway seeds (Persian cumin) when I have a severe heartburn. A bit hard to swallow as its too dry for the taste but it works amazingly.

See your GP because you may be suffering from GERD, it is when the acid in your gut returns to the oesophagus and gives unpleasant symptoms it is treatable with Omeprazole or Lansoprozale both prescription medicines, also watch your diet.
