"I agree with the ban on adults smoking in a car with children. They aren't able to ask them not to. Why would you want to as well, especially as asthma in childhood is more prevalent than ever "

"It shouldn't need a law. I would question why any parent (or adult for that matter) would subject children to passive smoking. The harmful effects are well documented and proven, it's neglect and potentially even abuse." I've been to people's houses where the parents smoke like chimneys and the kids stink of smoke! It's disgusting!

Yes and that could also be said for fat overweight children that is neglect and abuse,, it's still goes on, things aren't always cut and dry, like I said in my comment I was to young to know any different, now I'd never allow anybody to smoke around them, and I never give them junk either, or in a baby bottle, which is another pet hate, as seeing somebody smoking in a car with children

" As smokers (me just occasional) I agree, this day and age with all the knowledge we have that people still smoke around kids or even other people on confined spaces, which I hasten to add we certainly don't. But I've seen quite a few people smoke with kids on the car. Sometimes two adults chuffing away with windows wound right up and two kiddies on the back seat. I makes my blood boil.

You're supposed to protect your child. I had a lung tumour removed at 18! I wouldn't want anyone else to go through that unnecessarily " Parents are becoming younger and younger and some need guidance, my mother smoked all over me, I knew no difference, it wasn't till I was older that I realised

"Makes me laugh. In this day and age where "elf and safety" is thrown at us from every angle, having to wear safety helmet, wear gloves , goggles , ear defenders, signs everywhere saying slippery floor, mind your head etc. this is all done to prevent accidents and fatalities but the one thing that we all know kills 1000s every year is perfectly legal and it's also perfectly legal to poison others including your own children !! If you smack your child around the backside you can face prosecution but if you poison them on a regular basis then that's perfectly fine !! Rant over " Some children need a good smack around the backside, that's why they are all un educated an there is no control in the schools,, the children rule,, bring back the cane I say

"As a smoker i would never smoke in a car with a child in , or smoke around children full stop for that matter lol ! As for comparing McDonalds to smoking in health terms is just plain ridiculous lol " obesity, and Mc Donalds go together, more children are showing as type 2 diabetic now than ever before, In a Mc Shake, large size there are 35 teaspoons of sugar, in an average happy meal 1 teaspoon of salt, It isn't about having the odd treat, ie burger or happy meal, its about relying on fast food for your diet, 30 yrs ago, the only fast food was fish and chips, its about lifestyle and education, Mc Donalds know that sooner or later, their products will have to carry health warnings, same as cigs, and they have started introducing healthier options, in readiness for new laws.

"I don't have much to add apart from an article I read where an American professor ate nothing but McDonald's for 3-4 months BUT kept to his RDA and actually lost weight." You can lose weight eating or drinking an unbalanced diet, Mc Donalds can be used in a diet programme, The problems with Mc donalds and most convenience/ fast food, is the amount of sugar, salt and MSG it contains, and the trans fats. Which increases risk of heart, circulation and diabetic diseases.

" Perhaps true not all, I'm lucky my children are very educated but when you at the school picking them up and some mother is fing and blinding at her child for mis behaving, when he is trapped in a pram at 3 years old with a bottle of pop and a bag of crisps for breakfast, it's no wonder the child is mis behaving,, rather than give the child what he wants perhaps what they need would lead to a much healthier relationship,, and therefore helping the teachers in the school, some of the stories my girls have told me about how the children behave and the teachers have no control is shocking,, going to the school doesn't help any,,

But if you didn't do anything you wouldn't have gotten the cane is the point, the school have no control over the situation,, might just be that mine were born in 2000 apparently a lot more children were born on this year,,, so making the school over populated,, but still, children swear at the teachers, all sorts of goings on,,, the schools are more interested in the stats that go off rather than helping ,,

I would rather they focus on things they can actually monitor rather than if the parents are stupid and selfish to smoke in.a car with their kids!

"Its not like responsible smokers have anything to fear from it. So I can’t see why any responsible adult would have a problem with the introduction of legislation aimed at protecting children’s health…. " I think its more of people objecting to whats fast becomming a "nanny state" and not the fact its related to smoking. As a smoker, it does rile me with the amount of hassle we get. Im considerate in the fact that if people visit me , i wouldnt smoke around them....or remove myself if kids are around etc.... But i do think smokers are being hounded to the extreme. Though they never say no to the revenue it gives them. To much money involved.

"I agree to be honest. It is not right, I once heard a mother say about her own child, if he don't like my smoke, he can walk away, how wrong. Confined to a car with smoke in there, what can they do. Nine times out of ten, I step outside my back or front door. Respect for my kids, I have done it indoors when I have had company over, that is wrong too. " I cant abide a smoke filled car, so can imagine what a kid goes through. "So, it's now illegal to smoke in your own car with your children inside. On Daybreak this morning Dr Hillary fully supports this and says it'd protecting children who don't have a choice. The opposition claims it's morally wrong for the government to impose laws on what you do on your own private property. He also says equally as dangerous to feed your child McDonald's 3-4 times a week. What are your thoughts? " my thoughts are you shouldn't need a law to protect your kids from your smoke, any decent parent just wouldn't smoke in their car with their kids inside through choice not law

" I agree with this new law (if passed) wholeheartedly. A huge proportion of NHS spending is taken up by childhood illnesses, which are often made worse by careless/lazy/feckless parents. I would extend this and make it illegal for parents of children still at school to smoke indoors in their homes. A mechanism could be set up at the school for the children to report parents who put their own kids at risk in this way." What about the parents who feed their kids into obesity? Clearly that should be considered abuse as well?!?

"I would imagine most people are responsible enough to not smoke in a car with children in but we all know some aren't. As part of my job, we visit people's homes to fit smoke alarms and as that then becomes our "workplace" for the duration of the visit we are within our rights to ask them to stop smoking or leave without completing the visit. None of us have done it, who would ask someone in their own home to stop smoking??!" yer bet it`s a public sector job ,councils love bossing people about nowerdays, turning into right hitlers,,

I was a paramedic, and a few years ago I went to an asthmatic young child with reported breathing difficulties, and there were three adults in his small bedroom, all clucking away sympathetically whilst smoking with the windows shut. They really didn't like it when I told them to put the fags out and open the windows. When we took the kid to hospital, I made a report to the duty social-worker who told me they could do nothing about it. I hope that's changed now.
