might possibly sound odd.. but living in a small town and family being local and all grown up here im guessing a lot of people might know of me and know my name/face... its not to say they know me or i know them.

Also being to several schools/moving around/general military lifestyle also have a lot of friends through that

im well liked generally (well thats my perception) so think i am.. could be wrong though ..

I don't have facebook. The friends I have on my friends list here are people I have met and would meet again because we have become friends.

Out there in more tangible world I am popular but I say no to quite a lot of things. Just because they like me doesn't mean I want to spend lots of time with them but because I am friendly nobody minds.

I am not 'popular' on here as I am true to myself and I notice that if someone steps out too far in one direction on the forum threads, in a way that makes them unique...different. .confident. ...the response on here seems to be.. to censor. ..to squash them. Even if they themselves were not the instigator and the person was simply standing up for their beliefs.

In real life, I have a wide group of friends and a great social life...

I am suspicious of the word 'popular' as it doesn't mean 'likeable' always.....

Sometimes people appear 'popular' because others are intimidated by them....the school bully appeared popular to me at the time...but it wasnt because she was a genuinely great person. It was simply because she intimidated people and they were too scared to stand up to her. So she gained this notoriety around her...and surrounded herself with this gang....

The reality is. ...she was herself a very scared and insecure person who needed to surround herself with all these people to give her a sense of identity and belonging and that without that, she crumbled alone.

Being popular does not equate to feeling secure and confident necessarily.

My experience is that the people who court popularity are rarely the popular people. The people I and others gravitate to don't actively seek or realise their popularity. They are just jolly nice and interesting people to be around.

With everyone being different the very qualities in you that make you popular with some will make you unpopular with others.

Id believe Im well liked enough by those who's opinions I care about the most. As for the rest I figure their feelings about me will probably range from worshipping me as a God to thinking Im an utter dickhead.

With some groups I am with others I'm not you can't help how people feel about you unless you are to curb, alter or change the way you are and with most people it really doesn't matter unless you strive to win the population contest. I don't hold with all the people who say they don't know because its tosh we are all aware on how er are perceived by others but I love people who project false modesty it just makes me laugh.

The face book thing is a bit of a red herring.

I would say that is an indication of popularity if you are someone's go to person when in need. I think a lot of people are popular and know it but are humble too which isn't a bad thing.

I've about 200 and 80% are friends of my kids they have grown up with so I do know them, the rest are a mix of people I have met and some from another site I was on plus a couple who have the same surname I was born with and a lady who has the same as my mum

nope, never been popular.

can probably count the amount of 'friends' i have had throughout life on 2 hands. although loads of people obviously know me.

i dont keep people in my life, so im guessing when i pop me clogs, there will be plenty of seats left at my funeral lol
