Over the rainbow, under the bridge

This is more about not meeting people from certain areas. I never meet people from the area around near where I work. Anyone else got certain areas they won't meet?

I work with the public so best for me to avoid it. It could prove embarrassing.

It's not really about where people come from.

Like I said, it's not really about where people come from. I avoid where I work as I work with the public there. In my job I need discretion.

Some may have jobs where they need to be a little more cautious.

There arent that many local to me anyway but I tend to make a decision once they get chatting. Ive blocked those who I feel are fishing for too much information or who I feel aren't discrete. I did meet someone who lived in the next street to me a few times but he was only in the area for 12 months.

And some people don't. It looks like Superramfan is one of them.

I am certainly more careful about meeting people where I work, but I have done so and its gone fine. I think the only time I'll turn people down is when they are obviously too far away for a meet.

Being a gay man, back in the 50's, 60's practising homosexuality was illegal, men met in secret, never with local people, in case they were recognised, people who worked in public jobs, or " sensitive "jobs, lived in fear, loss of job, prison, ridicule.

Homosexual men decided enough was enough and they had a right to meet and live their life as they wanted to, it took a riot in USA, The Stonewall riots, to spark change around the world, about 1973 I got involved with CHE, campaign for homosexual equality, and spent most weekends marching in one university town or another, sleeping on floors, getting Glammed up and becoming part of the visible face of being gay,

Slowly laws were changed, some people were killed, some lost their family, jobs and friends, by coming out.

Now being gay is more widely accepted, the age of consent is 16, some people will never come out, that's their choice, if every gay person had green hair, it would surprise many, just who is gay !

Swinging isn't illegal, it isn't something to hide, unless you think it is wrong, by keeping it behind closed doors that will never change, maybe people think it is just about sexual gratification, and is selfish, unlike being gay, which isn't a choice, it is genetic.

If every swinger had yellow hair, We would be surprised by the numbers, Unless you stand up for your right to freedom of choice, you will never find out what goes on behind closed doors.

Which is precisely why some people have to be more cautious.

I prefer not to meet anyone local to me though I have done but I like to see a face picture first to make sure I don't know them. I don't go to the Lodge as its a little too close for comfort given the only time I went my son's mate was there and a few from the estate where I live; one of whom who whilst has a couple's profile with his wife is also cheating on her so whilst I accept people want and expect discretion, I would rather not go there again

We won't meet anyone from the same town as us. Hubby has a sensitive job so we don't go to the Newcastle social either.

Arse End of the Universe, Cumbria

I won't meet local married men at home as it's a small town and whilst I have no problems if neighbours were to gossip over the yard wall about how many different men visit my house or how many different blokes I've been out with in the local, i wouldn't want them noticing Mary Smith's husband visiting me...other than that, not bothered overmuch about where they're from and have met a few from my workplace (mind you, there are about 10k people at my workplace so it'd reduce my victim pool significantly if I were to exclude them)

There is nothing wrong with a little distance between where people live and play we like it. We really wouldn't want to be seeing meets in the local tesco's etc.

Discretion is vital in my opinion due to the very sensitive nature of my job.

In terms of meeting people locally, I tend to let that be a judgement call, but again I take my time with it and have a red flag system I use.

I am a bit of a petrol head and my car tends to stand out so again have to be careful when I take that out on the town.

Also I will not meet people from certain areas that I know we will have nothing in common in.

I agree with you. However, it is in my contract that, due to the sensitive nature of my job, I cannot be seen to be doing anything 'they' deem to bring the profession into disrespect. Hence my wish for discretion.
