little house on the praire

The sitcom thread got me thinking about Richard beckingsale. Star of two of the biggest sitcoms of the 70s. Porridge and rising damp. Only 32 when he died, I'm sure he would of gone on to be a great film actor.

Which celebrity died too soon for you?

The initial question was "which CELEBRITIES do you think died too soon?"

While I feel sad for the loss of fallen soldiers, this thread was about celebrities, and in my humble opinion, being a celeb doesn't make someone's life any less valuable.

There is a time to laff and a time to cry, there is a time to live and a time to die.

Life is about living and the quality of a persons life, what they do for others, what they learn and what they give and leave behind.

Life is but a journey, full of twists and turns, and the length of a life isn't important.

I think I just _iew it in a very different way...

When someone talented dies, I see it as a loss, Amy Winehouse for example, was a drug addict, as I don't know her personally, I wouldn't judge her over that, the fact that she was incredibly talented and loved by many and is now dead, makes me sad. It's a loss, and a real shame in my opinion that she and so many other talented people died so young, no matter what the reasons were.

I've made a lot of mistakes in my life, often fucked things up in ways I'm not proud of, I hope people wouldn't judge me for those mistakes when I die....

"Can't remember his name but the guy who played Spartacus in Blood & Sands. He was so good looking and fit. xx"

Andy Whitfield.

I was actually thinking of the 1922 film "Blood and Sand" when I first saw this. Ironically, the main star of that was Rudolph Valentino, who also died too young - he was just 30 years of ago.

When does a person die "too young" or "before their time"?

Most of the celebrities mentioned above are only remembered because they died at the height of their fame. If they had continued their early legacies may have been tarnished by their current output *can't be arsed to mention numerous musicians, actors and Bruce Forstyth*

There is no definitive time to die, ergo no-one dies before their time.

I'd say that anyone who died before reaching 65 definitely went too soon.

You say that, but a very close family friend of ours died last weekend and he was just 65. In our eyes, he was taken far too young. He had so much more to do in life. Had just remarried 18 months earlier. Had just become a great grandad.

Ok, we've just about all had close family and/or friends die and my condolences for your loss.

I'm not saying people shouldn't mourn the loss of loved ones and I'm in no way trying to detract from your bereavement.

What I'm trying to say is that "died too soon", "too young" and "before their time" are superfluous statements as no-one knows when anyone is supposed to die.

died in an accident would be too soon. Murdered, too soon. Suicide, too soon. Unless you are referring to the everyone has a set day and time that fate has set out for them theory?

No, I don't subscribe to that theory but "too soon" for what?

Is there a set age a person must achieve before their passing is deemed timely?

Is it written that everyone should die at a ripe old age surrounded by loved ones?

It'd be standing room only if all these 'too soons' went when they were supposed to.

Phil Lynott

Perhaps not to you, too soon or before their time, but certainly before I had finished with them.

I suppose if I sat and thought a long time I could come up with more of a list of about five or six, but I wouldn't take the trouble to Google "Died too young" just so I could put up a list!

As for Mandela? I don't think he died too soon! South Africa needed to move on from the past a lot quicker than it has, he kept (not personally) the country from making that move.. (My opinion!)
