It doesn't have to be expensive in Waitrose if you shop well.

I love my Waitrose and not just because most of the staff know me now but because even at its busiest it is still calm.

The prepared meat aisle had three items for £10 before Christmas. Three chickens for £10 is good value and even more so because I trust the Waitrose meat production values.

Along with the service: last summer I bought a punnet of raspberries and as I was going out to the car I went to open them but saw a creepy crawly in with them. I took them in and they replaced them for me and gave me a tub of ice-cream to go with them as a goodwill gesture.

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

I do my day to day shopping at Waitrose, simply because its just round the corner.

Ready meals are more expensive but I dont buy those anyway, branded good are price matched with Tesco, I think the meat and fish is better quality and good customer service.

I bought a duck at half price the day before the best before date. When I went to cook it that night it smelled a bit funny so I took it back for a refund but I didnt have the receipt. They insisted on refunding the full price, plus same again as an apology. Not bad at all.

They are now choosing and delivering on their own but Ocado still delivers for them too . I think Ocado offer Morrisons as well now.

Waitrose also has a shop and deliver option so you can choose your own stuff, leave it there and they will deliver it later. Plus you can collect your John Lewis order at your Waitrose.

Lidl does amazing chocolate.

M&S is super grab&go for inch

Waitrose is a relaxed, quality shopping experience

Sainsbury is middle of the road

Tesco is functional.

Morrisons is pragmatic

Asda is the bottom of the barrel

Aldi is somewhere between Lidl and Co-op.

I love Waitrose, it don't have to be overly expensive, I know if I buy their basic range it's going to be as good if not better than the branded equivalent. It is a relaxing shopping atmosphere. Unfortunately it is too far from me to be practical so sainsburys it is.

I avoid tesco's at all costs I think they are cancerous to farmers and small shops.

My meat comes from the village butcher and veg from a local farm shop and that is regardless of what supermarket I do me shop in.

My free coffee goes to waste. I should insist that they provide something for those of us who don't drink tea or coffee. The coffee machine in my Waitrose is on the bakery counter which makes it difficult to get to cakes sometimes.

That's the Waitrose difference. They have moved more of their food into production they own and control. Their arrangements with British farmers includes long term planning and investment and they handle their own butchery.

The supermarkets do all use a small number of processing plants however its not all the same meet each supermarket makes contracts with the farmers and each beast from field to point of sale is fully documented some use English suppliers others foreign but there is a significant difference to who buys which livestock at what price.
