A True Friend

It is said that a true friend is someone who you can pick up the phone to after an absence of communication and they will still be there.

Today I rekindled a friendship like that after the loss of a friend in unexpected circumstances.

Today, I am thankful to have friends.

I am lucky to have a fair few a very good one got me really thinking how you should always respect them and appreciate them as its far easier to loose one than make one.

I would rather have 1 or 2 true friends than 10 hangers on... I'm so grateful to have 3 that I can count on anytime no matter what.

Very true!

I can count my true friends on 1 hand and know they would be there for me in a shot!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

We lost a friend last week and it was wonderful to see how everyone managed to link up with at least one other person in this ancient friendship circle to be with each other at a specific time to raise a glass.

It's easy to ignore older friendships with day to day life but it's worth taking the time to let people know you love them.

My version:

A true friend is someone you can punch in the face and not have to explain why.

"I'm without reliable friends. My best friend died a few years ago."

I know how you feel. My best friend committed suicide when he was 17 and it took a very long time for me to be real friends with anyone after that.

I don't particulary need them, I take care of my own stuff. I seek my own counsel

Hard to make friends as you get older, esp when on the shelf.

Losing a friend is hard, but time heals..

I've one true friend who's always been there for me, as I have for him.

Sadly some others I knew over the years don't seem to regard loyalty and trust as highly as I do. It's easy to let yourself think that there's something wrong with you, until you remember your core values are still as strong as ever.

A friend calms you down when you are angry

But a best friend skips alongside you swinging a baseball bat singing "someone's gonna get it"!

Arse End of the Universe, Cumbria

A good friend will bail you out...a true friend will be sat next to you in the cell saying "Damn, that was fun"

Seriously though, my best friend I've known for 40 years since we met at infant's school. We only see each other a couple of times a year and have next to no need to speak on the phone other than to organise our holidays, but we each know that we're there for each other if catastrophes occur and our holidays together are brilliant, even though she's an early riser and I'm a miserable drag-meself-outta-bed-at-last-minuter

I'm also fortunate in having 2 other extremely close friends who I've known for 30+ and 20+ years and I can tell either of them absolutely anything.

I rarely need to confide in any great detail as I'm pretty self-sufficient and adaptable, but it's great to know that there are some people in the world who would be there for me unconditionally - my life is pretty good
