and taking money from already hard up families is the answer to everything?

if the child has no hurry up about themselves to get ready (V has had this in the past) then there isnt much can be done except get them to school half dressed

I think it should be re_iewed in a case by case basis, there might be reasons for their lateness. My kids are rarely late I think I can count on one hand how many times in the last 2/3 years, i live 5 minutes walk away

Is this persistant lateness? Then im all for it,rushing children into school late everyday can't be good for them, what are schools meant to do? send people round to get kids up and ready for school on time because parents can't?

I think first you need to try and help the parents that are making their children late for school with parenting classes or something. If after that they are still late then yes fine them. If they are hard up maybe they won't do it again. I feel so sorry for those children that are late every day the same ones. The parents are not rushing because they are late like I would be. They are leisurely taking their time. They don't care. I have even heard one child telling his mum to walk faster because he would be late again and it's embarrassing. I felt so sorry for him.

Zero tolerance!!

Pisses me off every morning watching the same parents running late, but fining isn't the solution.

March the parents into the office and give them a good caning !!

see, i can only go from personal experience, and some kids take their time to get ready for school.

Vs youngest is ready an hour early.

her older ones leave at the very last minute then dawdle up the road and were constantly late, yet they were up 2 hours some mornings, before they had to be in.

so is this the parents faults?

Yes there are loads of slob parents around these days and we thought Wayne and Waynetta were only from a comedy sketch

Lets hope most of the kids do not follow suit and take in whats taught at school to give them a chance because relying on a lot of parents these days just is not the answer

I was told by a few mums back in the nursery days that they are just so disorganised they can't get their child to school on time,6 years on and they are still doing it.My child would be horrified if I got him to school on time.

Personally i can only say that my parents used to make sure i was at school 10/15 minutes before lessons started, this held me in good stead and stays with you through life .

Maybe you should push her a little to be out of the door that 15 mins earlier?

I know some children can be slouches but remember the parent is always in charge. If the parent is wanting to get the children on time it will be achieved. Believe me they won't want to get changed from their pj's into their uniform on the walk to school more than once.

My daughter has to get the bus to the next town.

She gets up at six, leaves at 7.15 and on odd ocassions the bus late.

Should I be fined for that?

This isn't about being late on the odd occasion which we all know can happen to anyone.

The school should know how your daughter travels to school and presumably she isn't the only child to get this bus. An easy check by a member of staff should be able to check if the bus was late and then no further action should be taken.

The only time my children were late for school was because of public transport and then twenty odd children would all walk in together.

Yes for sure. You are in charge of your children not them in charge of you. I have three children. Two who would take forever getting ready if we weren't there making sure they got ready. This is why they say being a parent is hard work. We get up an hour and a half before school and leave on time.

Parents. Plural.

By eck, you go to a posh school don't yer.

If there are no mitigating circumstances then by all means fine them. Heavily.

Though it did make me wonder recently when a guy lost at Court and had to pay near on a £1000 for taking holidays in term time ( and he had exceptional reasons for doing so).

How fucking perfect are those who issue such fines and penalties, do they never do a thing wrong?

What were those exceptional reasons. Don't know much about this story.

I am sure they will have tried other ways to ensure persistent offenders improve their performance.

But hey, it will be unfair and unjust to some. It usually is.

Sorry, Hercules, but if the only reason the child is late is because they can't be bothered to shift their arse then it's the parent's responsibility to ensure they do.

I think this needs to be addressed on an individual basis. I am sure the schools know which families are 'repeat offenders' and this needs addressing as it disrupts the other children's education. However I would like to think that common sense could be applied. Buses can be late, traffic bad etc.

A part of raising children is teaching them about the real world. I am sure their boss of the future would not tolerate persistant lateness.

Parents are responsible for making sure their children arrive at school on time so good idea. Every morning I have to make sure 6 children are at school on time. And we have never been late. My eldest is the worst at getting dressed/organised and yes I did once take him to nursery in his pjs with his clothes in a bag. Just the once, mind. Parents are all too easily blame everyone else for their children's behaviour.

It was in the news recently, i seem to recall he was in the army, or some emergency service, and could not get leave during term time for the last five years. So it was reported.
