A Secret Hideaway In the caravan of love

On every channel now it seems like its a charity 24/7 ad campaign.

My grandkids would like to watch there cartoon without being bombarded by these adds 20 times in 30 minutes.

What annoys me is that they don't ask for a one off donation of whatever you can afford, you have to pay X amount every month for how ever long.

I have mixed feelings about the subject….

On one hand I think it’s such a shame the need for these saturation type advertising campaigns still falls someway short of meeting the target of helping those in dire straits ….

But on the other hand, I do feel the understandable apathy created by the constant bombardment of those same saturation type advertising campaigns does become counter productive…..

The images are ever more harrowing, which is having the unfortunate effect of making me ever more cynical.

Starving children photo's? there is no need of it, if there is mass starvation then there needs to be a cause, a drought or a war, some form of event that leads to a problem, if there is just no food don't have the children in the first place What happened to all the men we taught to fish rather than giving them a fish? and why the hell did we need to teach them in the first place? their ancestors have lived there for centuries and know hunting / fishing better than I do??

The walking miles to fetch dirty water advert gets me riled, that is a remake of an advert from the 70's with the same story, I have been paying into another water aid charity for years, but that advert has made me want to stop paying.

WHY you may ask... because it's obviously pointless 30 years on the job and nothing has been achieved, all that is needed is a drilling rig, a length of plastic pipe and a pump at strategic points... hell you can do the job with a shovel and some clay bricks baked in the sun if you don't have technology on your side

Sorry but it is Thursday, and the apparent futility of giving to these charities is getting me down. I think the current trend of monthly donations in perpetuity is an acceptance that the problems will never be solved, so all we can do is give up

All charities are a con/rip of merchants...

I used to work within the charity organisation what was set up to help the elderly..AgeUK..

And all the shop managers received a news stating that the shop profits need to increase,but the only reason why the profits had to increase was,they was going to give the Area Managers a pay rise,and also some of the people in head office needed to have better company cars..Charities make me sick..

They must need £1 of the £2 per month sent to them for advertising costs.

they all bleat the same thing.

such and such kid somewhere in the universe has to do something we take for granted, and its hardship for them, so if i part with a small amount of cash, they will make life easier for them.

they must think im stupid.

build a well in a village?

why not build an Aldi?

we have to walk 5 miles to water

well move 4 miles closer to the water, its not like you live in a 3 bed semi, just rebuild your shack nearer to places you need to be.

im not hard hearted, and i dont ignore the ills of the world, but particularly in africa and the like, things havent changed for generations, and its because the country cant, or wont, help themselves.

dont see many presidents from these countries walking 5 miles for water.

What is startling is the increase in the number of charities looking for donations to help children in the UK who are in poverty.

Charity begins at home.....

sorry, you are of course correct, its not a country.

however, it still stands, the countries wont help themselves (there is plenty of money sloshing around them, it just never filters down to those that need it, including a lot of the foreign aid)

I have always believed that most of the donations are used to fund the overhead here in the UK. and what ever is left is embezzled by the officials in the receiving country. I am yet to be convinced otherwise.

mother nature (the world) keeps tabs on the population. she never lets things get too out of hand, by way of famines, natural disasters and so on.

and on the topic of charities, it was recently announced that Children in Need invested billions of pounds of money they begged for from the population in Arms/Tobacco/Alcohol to get the best returns for their investors. it's sickness at it's very base level but it's legal and justified so that's ok

What channel do they watch if they are just showing adverts?? Turn the telly over to cbeebies lol

What's worse is when you ring the donation lines and offer to pay them the £2 a month and they try to guilt you into paying more. I used to work in a call centre that had a number of charity donation lines and that scripting never dis sit well with me.

Or the ones whwre we had to read out tragic stories to the callers before they could set up a dd

There are some very selfless people that give their time for no payment to carry out charitable work doctors nurses etc

Yes many young girls in this country disregard contraception some for purely selfish reasons others ill educated etc

They are not in the middle of a famine or bloody war or are there advertisements in other countries asking for money for them

There is also a massive difference in number of births regarding UK single mothers and the overseas countries in question regarding birth rate and circumstances

dont see many chavs on lunchtime tv going 'our Candice is starving. she has last years fake nike trainers and a knck off tracksuit that is fast becoming too small. faced with only being able to watch cbeebies on a 42" LCD tv and only on freeview, we need your help and a donation to get Candice a new pair of trainers, and to get Sky and a larger TV. and he mother needs the latest iphone 5 so she can go on the internet and check her facebook to see if Candices father has shown who he is. Please help otherwise they will have to wear Primark. Primark!! oh hte humanity'
