Aberfan landslide disaster

The 3 apollo astronauts dying in training accident.

The soldiers dragged from their car and murdered in N Ireland.

The British Army inadvertently drove into the midst of a republican funeral, their car was set upon by the crowd. They were dragged out and beaten before being shot dead by members of the IRA.

One I definitely remember and I was frightened of was the Yorkshire Ripper. I remember towards the end, one of the last murders, the Sun printed pictures of all the victims with the heading no woman was safe. I was frightened when my mum went to bingo.

We werent living in Yorkshire, we were nowhere near any of the murder sites, but I was really scared by it.

The Balcon Street siege. I remember the coverage on Nationwide. At the time I would've been about six. I was always perplexed as to why the presenters changed nearly every night. Frank Bough used to stand in on it and I used to think why are you there doing that, you should be on Grandstand.

Funny what you remember.

I remember hearing that Elvis had died

There must have been cold war stories because I was terrified of nuclear war.....and kept an emergency box of my favourite toys under the bed in case we had to leave quickly.

I don't remember much else as I didn't watch the news as a child. I can probably tell you the ending of all the Scooby doo mysteries though.

Was it the creepy old guy?

Elvis and John Lennon. Lord Mountbatten and various Troubles stories had me scared for a while. I remember being evacuated from County Hall because of a bomb threat during an inter_iew when I had just left school.

I don't know why but several rail crashes stick out in my mind. The Paddington rail crash especially then there was potter bar, and the kings cross fire I remember that too.

Very strange as railways, undergrounds, trains and train stations are a recurring theme in my dreams.

I also remember watching the news when the Hillsborough disaster broke and people pushed up against those blue fences have stuck in my mind, I was only little at them time.

And I remember lockerbie and how Emmerdale copied it and from then on I was absolutely petrified of a plane crashing on our house and whenever I heard a plane in the sky I would freeze in fear.

Local news a girl kidnapped from the park literally the other side of my garden fence at the time. I didn't dare go out for months after that

I remember Hillsborough, as I was supposed to go to the match with a group of male friends, but I had an important dance competition, so I gave up my ticket. I remember it as clear as day, I went to get a drink from the bus, and the driver had his portable t.v. on, I was overwhelmed with fear for my friends.

luckily they were not caught up in it, and even now it still imprinted in my memories.

then there was the fire at bradford (I think)

I got to mention BEFORE I was born, so I'm cheating here a bit. I still think another disaster was:

when 2 planes crashed at Tenerife airport in 1977, killing around 500 people.

Also the HUGE tsunami early 2005 that estimated to have claimed 200,000 lives.

The 9/11 attack. I'll never forget that.

The IRA bombs in London, especially the Harrods bombing as I was only a few hundred yards from it at the time

The one that sticks in my mind is the lad that was abducted and killed. I cant remember his name, but remember his bike that was abandoned on a farm or something.

The Space Shuttle landing, that was exciting.

Channel 4 going live was a big thing as well.
