As someone who considers himself still very much in the category of newbie here, I've recently had a penny-dropping moment.

Having made the first approach to numerous ladies on here, whether by a wink, or more usually a personalised message, I accept I'll not receive a reply from the majority, as I understand ladies have to deal with high volumes of messages anyway.

But a common phrase I've read on profiles is to the effect of "Single men. Don't bother. If I want one I'll find you."

I took this with a pinch of salt. If women get constantly bombarded anyway, when would they bother to look?

But having taken an active part on the fora, guess what? I'm receiving unsolicited direct contact from some lovely ladies!

I know I'm a bit slow on the uptake, but what a welcome and pleasant surprise!

You make a fair point!

In my defence, that pic was taken at my niece's wedding. Her father (my brother) did a routine about the Blues Brothers in his speech, hence us wearing that particular attire.

I know I look like a right tit too, but it's the last half-decent pic I've had taken of me.

I'm appreciative of all of the lovely and supportive comments that have been posted on here, regardless of gender or what's growing in the vegetable patch. Where possible I've tried to PM each poster to thank them personally, male and female alike. Sadly I couldn't do so with everyone, due to some filters.

That's really sad to hear. I always try and reply to every message. The way I look at is, if someone has taken the time to write me a message, it's only polite to write a reply, even if it is with a no thank you.
