to try baking some cakes

now, i'm wanting to try and do a lemon meringue, but the recipe i want to try says to make the base using a food processor, i only have a blender, will that do the same job and be alright??

please advise

It depends what you are trying to do.

If you are trying to break up biscuits such as ginger nuts and digestives, then a hand-held wand blender is not going to be much use.

However, if you have the suitable attachment for mincing/chopping/grinding, then yes, like a Bamix or similar.

If it's biscuit base just chuck it in a bag and whack the hell out of it with a rolling pin! Works for me x

Not knowing the brand/design of the blender, I would refer to the instruction manual to see if it can make pastry.

i dunno pearl, we use it to make soups/smoothies etc. it just blitz's everything you put in it

its just a jug with chopping blades in the bottom

Got you.

If it is similar to my Waring blender, which is a glass jug with a blade at the bottom, that I use for making cocktails, then no, as I believe pastries need more room to blend, and a jug is not wide enough.

Also, I imagine it would be very hard to take out the pastry and to clean the jug afterwards.

use your hands, only takes 2 minutes, a blender breaks the mix down too much.

A cheapo two-prong whisk with bread dough attachment should work for pastry too.

Cheaper than getting a food processor unless one bakes all the time, IMHO.

oooh.... i got one of them, would be good to just do the flour, butter & egg mix with, thanks, if it dont work, i'll use me fingers
