"mifi is a over the phone internet connection just like on a phone. But unlike a phone any wireless laptop or pc printer can connect to it. Also more than one laptop can be connected at the same time. " Oh very clever , thank you

"Depending on what mobile phone you have you should be able to connect to the internet via that. On my HTC smart phone there was a hotspot connection you could use which was located where you look at the wireless / blue tooth etc. On my current phone its a wifi hotspot. So as long as you have the data to use on your mobile contract you can use that x" Oh complicated

The computer or tablet connects to the phone which acts like a modem. Think back to ye olden days when your computer was connected to a modem which had to dial up to connect to the Internet. Now you can connect your computer/tablet to your phone which connects to the Internet. It doesn't have to dial-up anymore but the idea is the same. The principle is pretty basic. Have a box of some sort that can connect with the internet and connect your computer/tablet to that. It's the same for broadband where the router or modem is the box that connects.

"I started a thread on this a couple of weeks ago, the general consensus was mifi with a payg with 3 or giffgaff I didn't get to find out which was the best dongle to use" Unless your going to try to attach more than a couple of users you don't need a 4G one so I would recommend a Huwaei E5331 about £40, unlocked. Use a standard micro USB charger like the one for your one to power it, when not charging your phone, and it will be always on.
