I won't go into too much detail re how the samples are collected. Suffice to say I've just collected my first two samples. 4 more to go.

Necessary but yeuk.

Are you doing this for reassurance or was you advised?

All men in Scotland (over 50?) get a screening kit sent every few years.

Having lost a very close male relative to this disease , the screening programme is definitely a good thing!

And men in general (not saying all) are not very good at going to see a GP about their health.

I lost my best friend to it 7 years ago. But I bottled doing the kit when it came in. Will definitely do it this year when I get the next one.

No women can get it too. I may be wrong , but I believe that genetically within a family (familial heredity) it's more likely to affect the male line.

But as it can affect anyone, it's always worth getting checked out!

I had to look this up. Looks like men and women. The starting age in England appears to be 60.

I dunno but it may be possible to have your GP check, especially if you have family history.

Ask him/ her. It'll depend on many factors your GP will be better placed to evaluate than us.

Was asleep for the procedure so didn't feel a thing, but the stuff I had to drink the night before and subsequent reaction was an experience I hope to never repeat!

I have tried to erase the experience from memory so can't remember the name of what I had, needless to say it tasted foul and can only be described as laxatives on steroids!!
