Own up do you buy original clothing/watches etc or fake

I just wondered who bought fake/copy articles or who buys original?

An innocent reply on another threads got me wondering??

I buy both... But Ive probably got more fake/copy goods than the real deal.

I feel safer wearing one of my copy/fake watches than my 18ct gold rolex

I try to steer clear of labels if I can but I used to wear fake stuff for a short time, normally as cheap gymwear but jot anymore as its easy enough to get the real deal in outlets or discount shops

My one weakness clothes. (male here)

I have spent thousands, but when i grow out of them i sell on ebay.

Always always buy the real thing.

Its up to you in the end, but if it is real it will still be worth something when you have finished with it..so long as you care for your clothes.

I love clothes, so buy the best i can.

Forgot to mention as the OP had listed watches.

When we got married my wife bought me a Heuer watch (pre tag in those days..we are going back a while)

last year i was looking in a jewellers in rugby that sold new ones. So i went in to get it valued. It seemed to cause lot of interested in the shop and was told to insure it for £2000.

The cost of it new when i asked my wife was £100 (but that was a lot then also)

YOu really do get what you pay for and that was quite a investment.

My son will be happy.

Does it matter if people know what you have if 'fake' or 'real'? Isn't it all real?

I buy, and not very often because it's expensive, Chanel No.5 because the smell is unique and cannot be replicated. Everything else I buy, I buy because I like it, not because it has the name or logo of some designer/company on it with the silly price that comes with it.

Buying glasses is a nightmare, I have no desire to advertise and not get paid for it yet most glasses have a bloody logo on.

I remember the first pair of Manolos I saw. They belonged to a friend who spent over a grand on them. They were no better quality or individual of style than the shoes old ladies wore to ballroom dancing when I was a kid, but they were identical.

My friend bought a copy rolex here in Turkey for his wife it was real gold but cheap movement. Theyve got money 2 yachts and various properties. Anyway after 10 years the watch stopt working. So he took it to a jewellers,they couldnt repair it. He weighed it in as gold was high.... Purchase price £1500... Scrap price £1490.... £10 loss in 10yrs

We don't really do labels but buy stuff because we like it or it does a job.

So to us it doesn't matter if it's Aldi or a top brand we buy what we think is the best value for money...

I still have t shirts that are over 25 years old and in great condition. I have a Brietling watch that is now worth more than when I bought it...

Don't get me wrong we haven't got loads of money but cheap stuff can be false economy.

But the thing I'm struggling to understand is it wasn't a Rolex so why did he want a Rolex label on it regardless of how much it cost ?

I'm a labels girl however I do have a lot of un branded stuff in my wardrobe. I'm a sukker for Michael kors got bought a couple of his watches for Xmas. I also own a few pairs of Vivienne Westwood shoes, guess shoes, cavalli's but only tend to buy in the sales!. My best ever but were from Harrods cavallis original price £695 in the sale for £395 then blue cross to £150 the day I went in was 50% of again so bought them for £75 think they were having trouble selling them as they were grey patent. I was just very lucky.

You generally get what you pay for. I never scrimp when it comes to shoes and cologne. Gap outlet sort out my every day garments. I get the odd quality designer show piece and mix and match with high street Ts and Jeans.

Stepping out your front door feeling a million bucks is a great feeling.

I always like to buy real stuff, one particular nightclub i once went to would'nt let you in if they found out you were wearing fake clothing. The doormen stopped me at the door once to ask if my Henleys top was a fake, lol.

I was gobsmacked as it was real, so they checked the label inside just to make sure.

Can't see why a fake or real top would make any difference being allowed entry into a nightclub though, was a bit of a strange one?

No way on this earth would I ever by knock off / fake anything. It's tacky and screams (negative) volumes about the person wearing it.

All real here, but not with any ostentatious logos or emblems. You most definitely get what you pay for and I'd rather have 1 thing that will last me 20 years rather than 20 things that will last me 1 year (if you're lucky).

I like to buy quality and labels are largely immaterial in that decision making process. Lots of my clothes are unbranded, a certain label doesn't add to the appeal. I have unintentionally broght a fake cycling top and crystal has brought fake Ironfist shoes (both on ebay) and though the quality is good ot is still inferior.

I don't think I own one single item that's a label or a brand. Don't care about labels at all so no genuine or fake items here. My watch cost £10 and it works fine, I don't see what spending £1,500 on a Rolex would achieve.

I've fallen in love with the odd bag and pair of shoes that are a few hundred quid. Don't have that sort of money though so I don't get them!

A shoe shop near me last year was putting red soles on people's shoes for £15 so you could pretend your new look stilettos were louboutins. Don't think I ever saw anyone round here with a pair of red soles on though.

Don't see the point of fakes myself. If I couldn't afford the thing I wanted I just wouldn't bother.

Primark look after there workers around the world do they?

Nothing wrong with buying clothes/watches etc from any shop.

My wife is a big fan of second hand clothes and folks always say how nice she looks and comment on her clothes. Her choice to buy where and what she wants to wear.

BUT i just dont get people who wear fakes. When you walk out your door You know doubt want people to think you have the real thing....That says a whole lot about you.

Just and never will get it!!!!

I don't buy fakes, I'd rather not have it, its false economy as items won't last.

I have one work bag, a designer brand. I bought it in 2010 and use it every day, it looks new.

Similarly I bought my son some Timberland boots and they're still going strong and he's had them 4 years, £120 divided by 4 is good going for boots.

I buy stuff in TK Max. Also go to designer outlets at sale time. Also buy stuff from Cancer research and other charity shops. My money, my choice.

Never been in a real designer shop. Wouldn't want to. They probably wouldn't let me in the door.

I'm currently wearing pair of jeans from George at Asda. Does this mean I won't be getting any more meets? Lol

This is true. But my watch (bought in a sale) is as accurate and as it runs on light, ought never need to be opened making sure it remains water proof to well below any depths I am likely to take it and although not cheap, cost no more than a proper Rolex service. So for me it is the best combination of quality and price. I oathe ostentatious labelling.

In my opinion, he got done on the purchase *and* on the sale.

Tell him to have a look at how much the gold price has increased in those 10 years and let us know if he's still proud of himself.

My main indulgence is sunglasses, I buy genuine Raybans because I like the style (new style Wayfarers) and the buggers keep bringing out new colours (fortunately the latest 2 colours haven't floated my boat so that's me a bit better off for not buying them)

I'm not one for expensive designer clothes, Designers at Debenhams is about my level

If you're accusing me of supporting the companies that abuse their labourers you'll have to do better than that, the closest Primark is 200 miles away so not economical shopping. While on the subject who here has ever seen inside the factory where their clothes are made? Don't assume because the item was expensive that everyone along the production line got their fair cut.

I don't usually buy branded goods apart from a few exceptions such as perfume and cosmetics. I've been wearing the same watch since I turned 18 ( an authentic Baume & Mercier my Dad gave me) and I only weal real jewelry so don't change it very often (gold wedding ring, diamond engagement ring and a celebratory ruby ring I got for our 15th year anniversary). Don't really feel a need for fakes I must say.
