I must be one of the only fabsters around with an old wind up phone ... thinking of investing in a new one ... will 500MB be enough usage for me, unsure exactly what it equates too ???

Yeah me too. My phone is in constant use on the net and I've never gone over my allowance apart from when I had email notifications on here for every message - I soon learnt to switch them off!!!

if you are using it solely to read internet pages.. yes.... 1mb roughly equates to 500 internet pages....

if it is to download music... 1mb is equal to 1min worth of music.....

just dont use it to watch video... 500mb wont go very far.... so as long as you stay away from the likes of youtube... it will be okay

Personally I chose a package that had unlimited internet, nothing worse than going over your limit and getting a huge bill.

That should be more than fine and with some phones you can set your limit so you do not go over it.

Samsung galaxy phones have this option but the HTC one I had before did not.

One of my work colleagues was away when the Tottenham riots kicked of and looked at the news about it and did not fully exit properly and run up a £750 phone bill..

Fabio is absolutely spot on. If you only want to browse and check internet pages then 500mb is sufficient. When I first got my phone I went on YouTube and before I knew it I had used 300MB!

Your phone should have a setting which allows you to cap your usage (go to settings - data usage - mobile data)

Also a good tip for conserving your allowance is to connect to Wifi whenever possible. Hope this helps!

Connect to wifi whenever you can and you'll be fine.

Unlimited internet use packages are cheap as chips these days, you know where you are and no chance of nasty bill surprises.

I have unlimited but it's not valid abroad. So I make sure data roaming is off then if I am away and want to check in I go to a cafe or hotel with WiFi.

I have two contracts with three both are on the one plan and offer completely unlimited internet, one is used at home just for connecting to laptop, Xbox ect instead of having broadband, it's actually cheaper than any unlimited broadband you can get and sometimes faster, been doing that for 6 years, for 15 a month you can't grumble and most phone companies will tell you their internet is unlimited but they come with a fair usage policy, nearly got caught out by t mobile with that. I would recommend taking out the one plan for 25 and getting a good smart phone with it, you can't beat it, the inclusive mins and text are basically more than you'll ever need, and you won't have to ever worry about extra data charges, also Netflix, sky go, YouTube, itv player, BBC I player all come in handy to watch when you're bored,

it you use Opera mini to browse. It condenses the data you use. works fine with the fab mobile site. Also circumvents your network providers age restrictions

It all depends on what you want to do and how you intend on using the phone.

I use mine to browse, download, email etc etc etc and got a good deal from 3 for all you an eat data. £36/month and its 2000 mins, 5000 text and all unlimited internet which i can piggy back on to when using my pc or laptop. It was good enough for me to cancel my home broad band and just use my phone as wifi point.

So OP what is it that you actually want

I am with vodafone and before I upgraded just before Xmas, I only had 500MB of data. Their internet browsing does not eat into the data too much and if I did hit the limit, it simply cut off, I did not have to worry about unexpected bills for data. I have gone unlimited now on 4G, it faster than the fibre optic broadband I have at home!

I'm the tpye of person that when I'm out I'm not watching videos but chatting to people or doing things that mean you can't brows a 5" screen. I read the papers and check email accounts etc and 500mb is plenty. I dont really go over 200mb per month really
