after taking in the wifes mother due to her alzheimers, the wife decided to apply for carers allowance as she's had to give up a well paid job to care for her mother.

the wife gets £59 from the DWP, but they stop her mother £60 from her pension to cover it.

sort of understand they have to give with one hand and take away with the other, but why is there a £1 difference??

lets say (guessing) there are 5 million people doing the same carer thing, then thats £5 million pounds a week the DWP are scamming from people. thats £260 million a year

Be careful, the allowance doesn't give your wife entitlement to dental care and prescriptions. A mate got caught out with a dental bill after a random check.

Its easier and safer to get people in care. Had to do this myself.

it is not easier, if you want to care for a relative, I don't think the carers allowance is means tested.
