Tories lose twice ...

Tories crashed to a double defeat in the first council by-elections of 2014, including in Kent, with Ukip gaining at last after weeks of near-misses.

Its candidate Tony Brown, who was returned as a Suffolk county councillor last May, scored a landslide victory to take a seat in St Edmundsbury Borough's Haverhill East ward.

Conservatives were beaten into third place by Labour.

The second Tory defeat came when independent Mike Taylor won at Borough Green and Long Mill, Tonbridge and Malling Borough, Kent.

There was a small swing to Conservatives at Swinton South, Salford, since 2012 but a bigger movement to Labour from the 2010 council polls fought on the same day as the general election.

May be good news or not.

Many "Tory", "Liberal" and "Labour" people seem to jump ship to stand on the UKIP bandwagon platform.

Chancers. Doubt they'll have reformed their own policies/prejudices that much.

This isn't really mentioned in the press because council elections rarely reflect the voting patterns during a general

Election. There will either be a conservative of labour government, all the other parties are just there as spoilers.

Maybe true for a general election, but i predict a big win for UKIP in the upcoming european elections.
