Hate.

If you read the forums enough, you'll see all sorts of debates going on with different perspectives, experiences and facts (some accurate some not).

But in amongst it you'll see some pure hatred. Seething, scathing comments with a vitriolic passion that's kind of unnerving to behonest. "im glad he's dead" etc.

I'm not perfect. I dislike some people, even some types, but to hate ? I like to think I avoid those I feel are negative influences to me as opposed to pursuing a war of propaganda.

Is it experiences, upbringing, education? What makes people hate ?

Oh my, the pop psychologists will be all over this one.

Seeing as I am a pop psychologist ( ) I think it's sometimes because they've had a bad experience with a certain thing. Or they have been brought up to hate certain things. Or peer pressure ie they feel they have to hate things to 'fit in'.

The only thing I hate are sprouts. Evil little things, I can hear them plotting.

All sorts of things...hate is such a strong word and there is a fine line between love and hate.,,both very over used words both used when you don't mean it. I've had some pretty rough moments in my life but I don't hate the people involved as I believe that hate can consume you...I dislike strongly certain people but don't hate them..I just think it's a common word to use and like I said sometimes you don't mean it..the same way with love. I don't believe that it's down to education etc I think it's down to individuals beliefs

I'm neither uneducated nor stupid but there are a couple of people in this world that I can say I actually hate and wouldn't be unhappy to hear they had received their comeuppance. Also the hatred for them does not consume me, I rarely think of them.

Hate is a very destructive emotion, and can make a person bitter and twisted, that in turn could lead to health issues.

Rather than to hate a person for what he/she has done to me, I would adopt a don't care won't care attitude and forget about them instead.

Life is too short to waste time on those who have done me wrong.

Hate is a very strong word, used in its right context.

There's one person I know personally~who I hate so much, but people are right, hate eats you up.should really let it go

But I also hate people that hurt animals, children and innocent people and ones that rob people's homes

I think the word hate is commonly used, and isn't what I refer to... Hate,dislike,can't stand, its all semantics.

But pure hatred, really does sit uncomfortably with me.

I don't think I could hate something that hadn't directly affected me, but there are examples in the forums of posts whereby they clearly dislike with a vengeance something, even without providing some substance. Maybe its the way they articulate themselves.

Its encouraging to see the main focus of hate here is sprouts & chopped liver !

Entirely agree with this post in both sentiment and in relation to the OP's question.

Hate has become a very common word and has lost alot of its strength in seriousness so thats why these days people use it for anything. My friend the other day shouted that he hated his maid, doesnt mean he truely does. Its just that nowadays exaggerated speech is very common.

hate and love are misused in the same way that straving is. People say "I hate semolina but I love rice pudding" they don't mean it, people say "I'm starving" they aren't. I personally strongly dislike the misuse of the word starving while I can just about tolerate the misuse of the other two words.

That said I think some people have a lot of anger inside them and actually do hate certain people, opinions and actions...I find it quite scary.

very true....Sunday morning wasn'ta good starting time for this, but some posts on a thread about someone dying prompted it. I really really ha.....don't like raw celery.

lots of people get extremely upset when someone disgarees with them and find it impossible to have a reasoned and calm argument. I think these are the ones who express their _iews so strongly.

Have you tried adding some soft cheese to it? Those processed cheeses in a tube are great for filling the hollow of a celery stick.

I'm going to try that, just so I can rip the vile green beast into pieces and spit it out in a chewed pulp on the plate shouting sprouts have nothing on you.

I hate the sound of noisy eaters. It has a medical name 'misophonia' so it's not my fault!

I hate liquorice too. I don't want to, but I do.

I don't think I've met anybody I hate. Usually I don't think too much about people I don't care for.

Yeah I currently on holiday in Barbados and have a friend that lives out here. Most people around higher middle class have maids and house helps.

I used to hate and scare of thunder and lightening, that's when I was a young child, and was told by my elders that it was to do with the gods being angry with me, blah blah blah...

Then I grew older and learnt about how thunder and lightening are formed at geography lessons.

Since then, they do not bother me, and I love thunderstorms. In fact, I would happily sit in the front of my tent and watch one of nature's best free spectacle.

So yes to fear and ignorance can lead to hate.

I hate tax dodgers! Guys I work with taking home £50k+ and paying not one penny of national insurance,+ minimum income tax. Then they're always the first to complain about the crap police or state of the hospitals etc etc, Then when the tax man does catch up, the company folds and they start again! Grrrr!

I have taught my children that "Hate" is a very needless word and it takes a lot to really truly hate someone or something. The word that i like to use "Dislike"

My eldest daughter has told me that she hated me on a couple of occasions and all i said to her was "Ok i will stop doing everything i do for you for 24hrs and we will see if you still hate me after" Having to sit and watch us all eat dinner brought her round very quickly to saying sorry !!

Some people aren't allowed to defend themselves from the hatred by the hater as its gone too far. I work in a job where people have told me they hate me for what I am without meeting me. And it really has been hatred. How do we diffuse such hatred and anger... Other than by throwing sprouts at them of course ?

I agree. I think "hate" often reflects the speaker's frustration at the world rather than an accurate description of their feelings.

I think I prefer intensely dislike and not hate, I used to hate someone but have grown up now I think as if we see each other in the street, we say hello, nothing more; I think if I hated him I would ignore him but find that disrespectful so will stick with intensely dislike.

hate is a deep emotion and is cause of deep un rest within the person as all emotions come from within so hate developes from a persons perspective . education love and respect can help broaden that perspective and alow a person happyness but only by them being brave enough to face there problems if not they form a bubble to help them get by but not feeling any real emotion

I agree with you there, reminds me of the crumbly mush we used to get at school and was many years before I could eat liver again. Prefer the good quality stuff, fried to just past the blood stage in its own juices in wholemeal bread with branston pickle nom nom nom

Is it though? Is there a chart that shows where dislike must turn into hate and vice versa? Why can't I say I "hate peas"? Who decides? I find people who say it's such a strong word and shouldn't be used lightly etc are just people who like to judge and belittle others. Like those who say "oh I hardly ever watch TV, I'd rather read" or "I'm a vegan, I just can't understand meat eaters" etc etc. just let people get on with life, stop judging and oppressing. You're not impressing anyone.

How can they hate you without knowing you? Hope you don't let it get to you. Words hurt but eventually you get numb to it. And numb to everything else too unfortunately.

i agree with the many other people have stated on this post that hate is a very strong word, however i also believe that some of the comments made on the forums would not be made in the real world because the reaction is a) instantaneous and b) there is the physical aspect (looking someone in the eye) were as in the cyber world (forums) the screen acts as a shield thus giving the user a form of protection, therefore i do take some so of the more distasteful comments with a large pinch of salt

I know someone that hates everyone and everything. I think it was his upbringing. It made him hate and he turns it on himself too. Some people that grew up in the same kind of situation turned it around, fought against it and used that early hatred to become better, nicer people.

I never figured out why each turned out differently. Just that the hater will never change.
