So who amongst us have finally realised that the big 4 Supermarkets have been robbing us blind for years and have now transferred their custom to stores such as Aldi and Lidl.

There are special offers and discount prices on goods in all supermarkets, if money is tight, just shop around. for example,

Lurpak.

Today, Asda £2.50,

Lidle 2.98

last week, asda 2.98

Lidl 2.oo

and its the same with every product,

We are lucky to have choices.

They're all shit and I'd love to see them all implode. However in the meantime I get what I need from them, but get as much as possible from local shops and markets - including all meat, fruit & veg.

Nope. I shop where I'm near too. Although normally asda. My weekly shop always seems to cost the same no matter where I go..

Does that include Lidl and Aldi then?

Depending on finances, I prefer to use my local farm shop, baker and deli. Use Costco for household goods, for cleaning and the bathroom.

If money is tight I use aldi and or Lidl.

The problem with cheap food is that it isn't always good for you.

A decent loaf of bread cant be made under £1 so in shops would be at least £1.50 to £2.50.

Boiled ham in Aldi and Lidl, in fact in most supermarkets is made from off cuts, fat and gristle, and steamed to a high temp under pressure, to tenderise, and to incorporate water.

Hand carved ham off the bone will sell for about £2 100gm, as opposed to pre pak about 79p 100 gm.

at the end of the day you get what you pay for, food will get much more expensive, due to price of fuel, and the climate changes we are experiencing.

The cheaper food is, the more chemicals and water it contains.

Lidl is good but why do they put women's underwear or a set of 5 screwdrivers next to a jar of olives. It's not normal.

Tesco drives me insane cos they keep moving everything just to make me cover seven miles to buy a kit kat.

I quite like Asda. They seem to have generally low prices.

Has anyone on here ever been food shopping in Marks and Spencer's or Waitrose? I'm scared to go in in case they realise I'm not posh and call the Police.

I have used Farm shops occasionally but find it strange that the meat etc at Farm shops can be substantially higher than the price of an equivalent cut of meat in the Supermarket even though the Farm shop sells direct to the public and cuts out the middleman.

The price reflects what you buy, farm shops tend to sell home produced meat, usually organic, and slaughter the animals on the farm, which causes less stress for the animals. ( also this produces better meat )

supermarket meat is usually from much younger animals, kept in intensive conditions and pumped full of anti biotics.

I prefer to eat less of better quality food.

Is that a crime? Inciting people to partake in criminal activity?

So did I. That's why I came on this one. I thought I was going to get in touch with a higher being. But were talking about pork chops instead. Although I've a feeling that cos it's an M&S pork chop it will be an almost holy pork chop.

I have been shopping at Lidl's and Aldi's for years, not for the weekly big shop though, as they do not have everything that I'd like to buy.

It helps that I live less than 200m away from a Lidl.

I find a certain irony in pork chops from M&S considering the Jewish roots

M&S/Waitrose/Sainsburys here.

I'll buy *some* bits from Aldi however having seen first hand through work the quality of produce Aldi has, I try not to go too often.

I mostly shop at the Co Op, mainly because that is all that's here but if I go at the right time I get excellent bargains on items reduced because they are going out of date.

Living within a 10 min walk of Tesco, Sainsbury, M&S & Lidle, I tend to pick and choose. Certain things I will only ever get from a particular store but some items are bought depending on current price

We make bread and costs us less than a pound. We make loads of food. It's cheaper and nicer

Buy what you can locally, butchers meat is always better than supermarket. Basics from aldi and lidl. Fresh fruit and veg might need a wash but it's as good a quality and cheaper. Flour and yeast you can buy enough for three loaves for just over a quid Home baked bread tastes better than anything you can buy and has no chemicals in it at all.

Oddly enough I went to Farm Foods in Gloucester, I wouldn't go again as didn't really think it was any cheaper than Iceland/other shops I use, and that goes for Aldi too.

I work at the local market so all our fruit and veg come from there, occasionally meat too ( but you have to but in bulk from them so its not very often) the rest of the shopping however normally comes from tesco/iceland/asda it just depends on how much energy i have to shop around lol ...but where i live we have every big store around within a 5 mile radius, and tesco has 4 big stores within that area !

Brighton - even Hove!

Aldi came top for their Xmas pud, pannetone and mince pies in a daily telegraph taste test so ours came from there. We will go again for other stuff.

I buy from a local farm. Pay more for beef, but it is soooo worth it compared to the almost synthetic stuff in the supermarkets. Also by my veg there, and the savings on that are amazing. As well as knowing it has been freshly picked from the field. Only thing is, they are only open 6 months of the year! Boo hoo

I went to tescos last night and spent ages wandering aimlessly. I couldn't find anything inspiring me to eat.

Aldi have some nice things but I only pop in if I'm in town as its awkward to get to at the moment. I also don't like the packing arrangements, especially if you only have a basket as you can't take them past the till

I prefer Morrison's as they seem to have more choice and their meat and fish counters are better.

We have a lot of farm shops Round here but you have to look carefully because not all of the produce is locally sourced. I've seen things in one that came from Spain for example. They also aren't great if you are on a budget.
