television turn off

For the past few weeks/months we have watched less and less TV. Now that it is switched off most of the time, we listen to music, read and talk lots more.

So my question is, could you do without a telly? Have you tried a few days without it? Or would you rather dip your genitals in chip fat than do without a TV?

Was always addicted to it, then I saw sense, pure propoganda.

Don't read the newspapers either.

Think my life has benefitted tremendously

Daytime the telly is on for the kids but once there in bed were both sat in the kitchen chatting away.

So don't think mr would miss it that much as he can go weeks without even watching telly.

We rarely use the TV for watching TV, if that makes sense! It's just a monitor for watching films and downloaded stuff from the US: The Sopranos, The Wire, House of Cards etc.

I do go without watching television for days on end sometimes, I download much of the stuff I watch anyway, but Like Ryan said I don't think I would like to be without one.

Tried this for a week at the beginning of December . I fitted loads in to a week . Saw 3 live bands . Had 3 family dinners . Cleaned freezer . All laundry up to date . Went to cinema . And had few really sexy meets squeezed in there too.

TV licience is very expensive a friend of mine got rid of his TV and has used the money to take himself out to loads of events . He goes to a lot of free gigs and events there are many available in your area . Check out local events guide for info .

I didn't own or have a telly for about 15 years till my oldest daughter was six, never missed it and hardly put it on now most of it is mindless crap....

Can't think of anything worse than the likes of deadenders and the like..

Years ago when our child was under 8, we tried no telly for one week a couple of times. It's not so bad. You just find other stuff to do. We go camping regularly though where you don't have tv for two whole weeks. So used to it. Don't miss it that much

Wonder how much richer all our lives would be without it! That said, it is almost a backdrop to family life, always on, even in the background, almost feels wrong not having it on. That said, one of many worrying things that "direct" us to the things that organisations want us to watch. Rather like the food we buy at the supermarkets these days and our overall shopping habits. Ever taken a moment to think what you are watching or what you are buying. The subscriptions we take out for satellite telly and when you get your loyalty card swiped gives away what you watch/buy, when you buy it and targets the things you might want to buy. Big brother is truly watching you ( other reality shows are available )

During the week I watch no TV whatsoever. At the weekend I will watch some sport and a film. If something is recommended to me ie The Sopranos or Duck Dynasty I will download it or get the box set and watch it at my leisure.

I don't get newspapers either as they are just full of news about TV personalities.

I'd never get rid of the idiot box but it does seem like an awful amount of money for an ornament that is just stuck in the corner unused most of the time.

I don't own one, just listen to Radio 4 and a bit of 6 music.

I don't think I could do without the TVs on this site though.

I'll happily have the tv off for a whole day, music, be it radio or cds or failing that get my head stuck in a good book.

I haven't watched tv for about 2 years apart from the odd 6 nations games the Olympics and Andy Murray winning Wimbledon. I have occasionally watched things on I player that have been recommended. I don't miss the tv at all.
