How long do you have to be quit smoking before you no longer want a cigarette?

a straightjacket

It's been 9yrs since I quit and there are still times I get the urge for a smoke. Just gets easier to resist the longer you go without

I gave up in 2007 and to this day i still crave a cigarette but I've managed to fight the cravings.

When I'm pissed i start tapping fags of my mates.

Stopped 6 years ago can't remember last time I craved one. But the key was I stopped rather than giving them up.

vapourising copious amounts of skunk keeps you off the cigarettes.

I quit 10 years ago. Persevere. It does get easier once you break the habit. I couldn't really put a time to it, but I still miss it and still have days when I think I could really fancy a cigarette, if I'm honest, I don't think that ever goes away completely. My urge not to smoke is now greater than my urge to smoke. And most of the time I don't even think about it now.

I quit 9 years ago but still fancy one every now and then. But it's not even close to the extreme craving I used to get. That time was horrible. It gets easier in time. Get some patches or something. Good luck

Well i was going to say that the thing that worked for me was getting pregnant, but thought that was a bit of an extreme way to give up. You have extra incentive. You'll get through it

Be strong, it doesn't last. I'd recommend Allan Carr's book, it's good. One of the biggest problems is when you've given up and thinking you can have just one smoke and not be hooked again - it never works...

You need to change your thinking!

You have given up smoking, that's a sacrifice and you will always feel that sacrifice.

Stop killing yourself, then not smoking is giving yourself a present and you will have no withdrawal symptoms from minute 1.

I know this works, I gave up smoking a number of times. The gaspers where dreadful and in the end I always fell off the non smoker wagon (twice round the 6mth mark and once after 18mths). However when I changed my thinking things were different. I decided to stop killing myself on the spur of the moment and did, no gaspers, no cravings, no artificial help and no bothers being in the company of smokers provided there is fresh air available for me.

(Havent had a death stick for about 10 years!)

Cheaper than fags. Especially when you think about long term. Think of your baby (you know about small babies and cot death and the rest of it) and how you need to be healthy for your baby. Think differently like someone else said. It's very hard but you can do it

We quit 11 months ago, the first 3 months are the hardest because we spend time with other smokers but we'd substituted with early nights and hot drinks

I have heard one of the biggest cravings that smokers get is for that sense of reaxation. The easing of tension is what you really want.

They say that sudden easing of tension doesn't come from smoking, but rather the deep inhalation of air you make with your first few drags of each cigarette. In that case, they suggest that next time you feel tense and want a cigarette, go and take a few deep breaths and go back to what you were doing.

I hope this helps. Best of luck.

Chew something and put your headphones on with music, then go dance. Cravings only last a certain amount of time and you need to take your mind off it

Quit 6 months now x

I think this is my year to give up.

It's so habitual though, before I even know it first thing in the morning ive already got one lit up.

I occasionally used to make sure I went a day or two without one just so I could remember the last time I went without, but when I last did it the cravings were horrible and I just felt dizzy and spaced out all the time.

"How long do you have to be quit smoking before you no longer want a cigarette?"

When you quit smoking your body is crying out for nicotine for 2 - 5 days. After that is all psychological. Easiest way to quit is with a hypnotherapist.

Please dont "give up" it just does not work. Start by programming yourself against smoking. Every time you light up think to yourself I'm paying good money to the tobacco industry to kill me, then change it to "ah another death stick ritual" soon (took about 2/3 months with me) you will find that they start tasting bad and your will not be lighting up as much...

Then you will find that suddenly you no longer want to kill yourself any more and you will stop hurting yourself, no withdrawal, no sacrifices and no going back.

It works, if I can do it anyone can!

I've been using e cigs, so much easier than anything else I've tried. Down to 8mg nicotine now and will drop it again when this bottle runs out.

Once you've been a smoker you'll always ha e urges. Some stronger than others. Trick is to not give in. You don't need it only want it and its only a few seconds per urge so pretty easy to fight it.... Keep it up, and just focus on something else, that should get you through the tough times. Good luck.

"vapourising copious amounts of skunk keeps you off the cigarettes. "

Since skunk aren't indigenous to this country, might I suggest you start with squirrels before progressing to pine martens and the occasional escaped mink.

I don't believe I gave up ever... Stopped for 20 years then started again . Smoked for 5 years then stopped again 1 year ago.

Cravings? Once you have been a smoker my personal experience tells me the need will always be there.

A few days feeling like shit. A little longer where you still think about it.

Don't bother with the e-cigarettes though. If you've already stopped, any nicotine you take now will waste what you've already done and just make you dependent on the e-cigarettes instead.

I tried various things including patches and e-cigarettes, but in the end cold turkey worked best - and fastest.

When I was feeling rough I found it useful to look up the lists of giving up symptoms - just to remind me I was normal!

Giving up is easy if you are happy and contented. I gave up after I met Mrs N because she had such a calming effect on me. As to how long. Well if stress in your life builds up it can still be a slight trigger for me to think about a fag again. Even writing this email after 10 years off them makes me think of that lovely fuzzy feeling you get for 10 mins. But that's all it is and if you have too many the blinding headaches, the foul taste in your mouth, the stinky breath thought kicks in

I know I must never ever smoke again because 1 fag and I will be back on them again, probably for good.

3 yrs this March i jacked in. can't remember the last craving i had but it's well worth giving up.

i got a wall calendar with a load of green stickers to put on every day i got through without a coffin nail and before you know it, you're looking at your efforts. great way i found to stay motivated. one moment of weakness can undo all that effort. you're only as strong as your foundations so start strong - end strong. good luck

That sounds worrying. Whoever is taking care of your money does not have your best interests at heart. Nobody should have control of your money. Your having a baby. I think that makes you a big girl now. I am not getting at you when i say that. I feel sorry for you. I don't know what your situation is. But I don't see the logic. What do they say
