Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

They haven't only just realised. The sugar industry is huge and gives massive subsidies to the Government, and so they turn a blind eye on the amount in food.

I always laugh at so called 'healthy' cereals like Special K which is 21% sugar. No point in eating low fat if you're going to replace it with sugar.

"Sweetners are just as bad imo"

Apart from Stevia.

Excess sugar gets broken down and stored as fat. Its hanuyaey and the world and his wife are on a health kick. Its usual to have lots of diet infoitmation around this time of year.

Beware of things labelled low fat as they often have a butt load of sugar in them to make them taste nice and to get you hooked. Sometimes a little bit of full fat is better than a lot of low fat.

Whilst stevia is a good natural sweetener it can still see derail diet attempts. Any sweet taste will make the brain think its getting energy and spo when it doesn't it sparks cravings for something that will provide the energy it expects. Your body is very determined to get what it wants and needs.

Anyone else here done the sugar challenge? Basically sugar free for a month - including sweetnings like honey, sweetner, anything 'sweet' including cutting down on fruit.

It retrains the tastebuds completely.

You really notice the difference afterwards!

I haven't taken sugar in tea/coffee/cereals etc since the late 70's, only have honey now. Mind you I really don't think we need it in its raw form as there's enough in all the processed crap anyway.

I went through a stage of replacing the iron bru I drink with innocent smoothies.

More bloody sugar in those than irn bru!

In normal fruit its not a problem, but the way those smoothies are produced gets rid of all the fiber, so its definitely not good for you.

In most cases these days if it says its good for you, its likely not.

This is my standard way of eating and has been for nearly six years. I don't eat any carbs other than those found in vegetables (no potatoes).

If I want a sweet hit, my favourite would be some dates and cheese. The dates are tooth achingly sweet though!

I think sugar is what sends kids 'insane'. Sweets/ fizzy drinks etc.

The kids that don't eat sweets or drink fizzy pop are a heck of a lot calmer than their mates.
