Day 2 is way too early to quit.

But I'd kill for a pizza...

Speaking as a couple who have yoyo dieted in the past, it's all about what is going on between your ears that counts.

Don't bother dieting at all until you have that sorted.

very well said.

its where all us fatties fall down.

we have to sort out our relationship with food before anything can happen in a good way.

my problem, i will NEVER leave food.

i was always told to clear my plate and it has stuck with me through life, so i should just make smaller portions.

easier said than done lol

This is true but sometimes you have to do things despite it not being the best time and make the most of it.

If I waited for the ideal time to do it, there would always be a reason not to.

Diet here too! I have no trouble at all at the start of a diet. .. I'm all motivated and after seeing that initial weight loss that is always massive, I'm always more determined. ... my trouble is a couple of months in when I've started to notice the difference. I then get complacent and slowly slip back into my old ways. ... so for me it's day 3 and couldn't be better

ask me again in 2 months time. ...

The ideal IS now! But get proper counselling. Someone who has reached their goal and stayed there is most suitable.

The relationship you have with your food and self image needs to be rebuilt.

It works. Bloody weight watchers and the like don't tackle this. WW in particular have a failure rate of 84% for this reason. Their business model is built on failure!

When I say "diet" this is pretty much what I mean.

Eating chips and pizza every time I fancy them is one of those habits I have to change.

Diet is the major factor in losing weight though. Exercise is good for endorphins, boosting metabolism and toning but it doesn't burn many calories or create much of a calorie gap.

That is because your euphoria at feeling less shit than you were to begin with wears off. Dispense with the scales and concentrate on the end goal. Say you're going to get to ex weight and weigh yourself at Easter and not before. You'd be amazed at what you could achieve.

All totally alien to what the industry tells us what to do. By concentrating on the goal you don't dwell upon where you've come from.

Agree totally. 75% of calories burned are done by just sitting there!

I'm not using WW or anything similar. The diet industry is just that, an industry. If it worked, it'd put itself out of business. I'm all too aware of that.

I know the issues I have. Nobody else can tell me how to fix them. I need to find my own methods and coping strategies.

I prefer healthy eating plans as nothing is off the menu and knowing I can eat it if I want to means I don't crave it.

I use ww not for the diet but the social aspect and have to confess that my competitive side helps me too. I've never failed to lose weight at ww. Its when I think I can manage alone it goes wrong lol

To some extent that works for not gaining weight. It isn't very effective if you've already got a significant amount of weight to lose. Unfortunately.

I'm on calorie deficit now having dropped from 3k to 2100 calories, and only eating foods mainly carbs in the morning and pre/during workout so I don't burnout quickly and get full sets in. Admittedly it's not a huge deficit, and I'm only at day 3, but I've been ok so far. Giving myself 20 weeks to cut up what I bulked last year, all going well I'm hoping to be cut up for summer. Then the bulk starts again. Rinse and repeat.

Try lifting some weights if you're not happy with your body image, I couldn't recommend it enough for both sexes. You won't 'tone up', but providing your diet is right, you will build lean mass. Then shred the fat and you're onto a winner.

I'd also recommend looking into your body type as that affects things too, and I've tailored my diet to my body type (endo), height, weight, amount of lean mass, exercise level etc. There are many factors which contribute to tailoring your diet.

Diets work perfectly well for me.....the fact that I go back to my old ways of eating is not a problem with the diet it's a problem that I am basically a greedy a pig! having said that I don't follow a diet as such just become more sensible about what I consume.

I don't diet but "try" to eat more sensibly, which doesn't always work

The most effective cut out for me is beer and wine

And finding something acceptable to drink is hard

Only by exercising do I only lose weight though.

I've managed to shift over 1 1/2 stone and four inches from my waist since I started running a few years ago and that's what maintains my racing snake figure

I'm not following a specific diet either. I'm cutting out junk and doing what I know works for me.

I hate it for the first few weeks then get used to it.

It's the inconvenience of having to plan ahead and think about what I'm going to eat that's most difficult for me. Grabbing whatever is convenient is one of my problems.

No, everyone doesn't. Last time I set out to seriously get fitter - that was my goal, not weight loss per se - I made great improvements in my diet and in my fitness and stamina. My resting heart rate dropped dramatically, my mood improved and became more stable and I slept better. I broke my carb addiction and I lost all food cravings. I also lost 3 stones in weight.

I kept it up, and kept the weight off for a year, until I got ill and had to stop exercising. I was ill for several months, (bedbound for the first two), by which time I was out of the habit of exercising.

Some, but by no means all, of the weight crept back on over two years or so. Then 2012 and 2013 were a bitch. Things got out of hand in mid-2013 and my weight shot up over the next few months.

I moved house at the end of November and started working on sorting it out. I lost weight over Christmas. I'm now embarking on a much more serious and structured routine.

I very definitely do not do the annual cycle yo-yo dieting thing. I do struggle with change though. If my routine is interrupted, it's difficult for me to adapt.

This time I need to do what I did last time but with some focus on adapting when circumstances change.

I know what I need to do and what works for me. I'm not enjoying it now and will hate it for the next month. After that it'll get easier.

Thanks to those who've been supportive and helful. To those who've been critical or told me I am doing it wrong, without knowing either me or what I am doing, I'll be fine regardless, thanks.

Actually it doesn't get me nowhere. I do it as soon as my size 14 clothes feel tight. I refuse to be a size 16 because I feel it's too big for me. I will probably go back down to a size 12/14 but will gradually stop being careful about what I eat/drink. It works for me because I like to indulge. I don't have the inclination to be healthy all the time. I like my excesses. If thats insanity, then I'm insane

Different things work for different people If you have a method that wors for you and you're happy with it, that's the main thing.

Some people think their way is the only way. That's insane if you ask me.
