Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Have you ever issued an ultimatum? Did you stick to your guns or back down?

Titz Towers, North Notts

I was once issued a ransom demand for a laggy band ball I had constructed in my first job. He went missing when I was on dinner

I think if someone dissed my leopard print tops, I'd not issue an ultimatum, but exchange diplomatic notes, request the UN security council to mediate, recall my ambassador and his Ferrero Roche and then start pressing the red buttons and send a few flans flying in their direction

Yea I lent my ex some money cuz he had lent me his xbox. A week later (what we agreed) no money, so I told him if I didn't have the money back the next day I would sell his xbox. Sold it and made a little profit

Never backed down from one unless new reliable information or evidence came to light.

Yes. Several times with landlords, multiple times with retailers and banks - and once with the ex when we were selling our house. She wanted to hold out for more money. I told her if we didn't accept the offer I'd be moving back in and she could fuck off to her parents.

We agreed a sale hours later.

In fact I messaged an eBay seller just this morning telling her that she reimburses me the return postage for the wrong items she sent me, by close of business on Friday, or I'll take the matter to Trading Standards.

I wouldn't mess with you.

I don't believe you should ever issue a threat (ultimatum) unless you are prepared to back it up.

I agree but people do use them and then back down.

She's been pissing me about since mid-December. I've been remarkably patient and given her several chances to rectify matters. This is her last chance.

Messing with me in these sorts of situations is usually ill-advised.

A guy sold me an exhaust system earlier this year that didn't fit. Instead of arranging collection and giving me a refund right away, which I was legally entitled to, he pissed me about. In the meantime, I needed the car so the exhaust had to stay on it. Because it didn't fit, it melted a chunk out of the bumper skin.

It took me two months but eventually the guy paid to collect the exhaust, which had been used over several hundred miles by then, gave me a full refund and paid for a brand new bumper skin and the labour to fit it.

He really should have given me the refund when I asked...

yes both in professional life and in private when dealing with a major diy store who sold me something which was'nt as described..

took a letter headed 'pre action' to get them to cough up for a replacement and the cost of fitting but they did..

quite often with some things meeting part way is preferable but when its needed then sticking to your guns regardless of being messed about is the only way..
