Desborough

When I was in the Army in Germany on Winter exercises it regularly got very cold. Once it got past -6C I didn't notice it getting any colder

I was camping in Canada a few years back and it was dropping to -10 overnight. I found it was warmer to sleep outside than in the tent, as the tent got too humid.

I think the silk bag liner and a nice glug of Canadian Club helped as well!

I got to play out in temps like that every winter in the Finmark when I was in the Commandos.

It really does become brass monkeys weather when the temperatures drop below -40!

Exercise in Norway minus 49 at night with us sleeping in snow holes. Fail to plan, plan to fail. It all in the prep layers and limiting exposure where ever possible. I do hand out warm cuddles for free

Britain will go into panic mode. Queuing for Calor gas bottles, coal running out, every tree in the country getting chopped down for wood, not a box of matches left in any shop whatsoever.

I'm just going to stay in me bed and watch Jeremy Kyle.

This doesn't bode well. The nozzle of my Propane gas bottles tends to freeze up in normal winters. Have to defrost it several times a day with a hotwaterbottle. Now imagine if the temperature drops to those kind of temperatures...

And yes, I've got layers of insulation wrapped around the nozzle, but it still freezes.

Thanks heaven I chose thermal roller blinds. Makes a hell of a difference.

"When stationed in Newfoundland used to go down to -55 but didn't seen as cold as winter here ? "

Its the damp - I have met various Candadians who have said it felt a lot colder here and when they looked at the temp they couldnt believe it was only just in the minus range.

I think you'd need a bit more than a second pair of socks at -53

Very true still keep in touch with people out there who can't understand why our country suffers so badly
