So... 2014 is the year that I'm going to shift the weight - going to get slimmer and healthier.

My plan is to go swimming 3 times a week and yesterday was day one... I very nervously took to the pool expecting to be able to do about 10 lengths (many years ago I could do 80!) but I surprised myself and I managed 20!

I'm going again tomorrow and am hoping to do 4 more. Roll on shifting this weight and being sexier, happier and healthier!

I am hoping to go every weekend with the kids. Now they both are old enough and safe enough I can do some proper swimming now.

When I was at school donkeys years ago I swam 12 times a week.

I know my body is older and less mibile but will start trying to go with the kuds. They can play while I swim.

Goid luck hunny xxx

Good for you! I lost 10 pounds over a few weeks in the summer by swimming 3 times a week! Then I got complacent and stopped so now I have to start again too!

The freezing pool to locker dash is putting me off though!

I love swimming but hate chlorine and public pools. I might have to start going though. We're also eating from smaller plates now on the basis that seeing a full plate means we will feel fuller.

Been thinking of taking some swimming lessons, I can swim but not properly. Done a mile before now but that was at a slow pace doing breast stroke, would love to be able to do it in front crawl

Saw a thing on yesterdays TV, looking back over the year with Countryfile. They we looking at the outdoor swimmers in Brighton.

They spoke to a woman who swam the channel aged 50 (no, I'm not saying you should do that lol!) but she was saying she was being fed 10,000 calories an hour by her support team, and burning off at least 6000, and she lost half a stone during the swim!

Although I knew swimming was good exercise but I never realized you could burn so many calories doing it.

Anaerobic is really good too. You have the support of the water and can often do a routine you would struggle with out of the water - just make sure you land on your flat foot not just the ball or toes.

I miss swimming. Might be able to get the all clear to go back in a pool again soon.

If you can go during the day then you'll be surrounded by the older people, parents (usually mums) of pre-school age children, pregnant women and those in a similar health situation. This means you'll be less likely to feel uncomfortable.

I was really worried about being seen in my swimming costume, especially in front of my stepdad - but once I got in and swimming I totally forgot the nervousness! You'll be fine!

It would be great if we could all support each other in our New Years Resolution to lose weight!
