My understanding is that there is a length of time that one has to wait to apply for a job at a place where one took redundancy, does anyone know how long it is?

Rugeley

Its unusual for an employer who has made an employee redundant then has another vacancy. Usually the job no longer exists. The ACAS site has loads of information on employment law.

They are not making me redundant, it comes with the role I have agreed to take. Thanks though as had forgotten about ACAS

The job they made redundant won't exist but they may have others. And times change. Jobs may be cut but they can also be created.

It is the job that is made redundant , not the person . But I think there is a , 6 month period before they can readvertise.

It is possible to apply at any time however there may be conditions attached to a redundancy package if you got one I would read through that as there is a lot of variance in them.

I think the OP is asking if they can apply for jobs within the same company after taking redundancy not about the job that became redundant

I've read it and oddly nothing is mentioned

I think it depends on the company and the position. When I was made redundant I only had to wait 2 weeks but at the time I was just a call handler. If I was management I think it vwould have been 2 months.

If you want to go back, and they want you to go back - could they make you a 'consultant' for long enough to get over any time restrictions on re-employment?

It seems to work in local government, the police, fire service etc.

In which case there is no time constraint.

If you were in a post which was made redundant, you can apply for any other suitable post, even during the redundancy consultation period, subject to interview.

If you are accepted for another post, you "should" be able to retain the award from the redundant post. ACAS can confirm/ refute this latter.....

Probably not given the position I am in, had I been management, I suspect that would be different

Yes I know that during the redundancy, I can apply for other jobs but then would lose the payout which is why I am going. I have searched on ACAS website for an answer but there were too many 'answers' that came up so will ring them

It is generally dependent on the company you leave i think. I'd check with old colleagues you trust. Is the new role permanent or contracting? as some companies really don't like employees coming back as a contractor.

Not sure how they will react to you applying for a role after you volunteered to go

If the job is being disbanded and that's the reason for redundancy then there is nothing stopping you being made redundant in Friday and commencing a new job role/title on Monday morning.

We have a 6 month policy after which anyone made redundant can apply for another job in the company.

More like HMRC don't like you going back as a contractor. Avoids the ERNI contribution.

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds)

Redundancy Can be very complex, I d seek good independent advice, if theres a role within the company you re leaving that you re qualified to do I m surprised hr isn t offering you that role rather than the redundancy,

There isn't one going and those roles that are going are at other sites and I'd have to relocate if I got them
