Do you complain if something goes wrong - ie bad service in a restaurant or waiting in or day for a delivery that never comes?. If so how effective was your complaining, did you get money off etc?.

I complain but discreetly - not one to shout, just put my point across where appropriate. Don't do it just to get money off or whatever but so that they don't keep making the same mistakes or whatever. Z

I prefer to complain by letter and to ask for a reply, that for me usually gets the best results.

Always make a fair point... Be polite... If the dumpty your dealing with can't get you the result.. Take it higher... Compliment the good points to highlight the bad ones... Never lose your rag... Never swear!

And if you need to write then write... And keep following it up until you get a result... Then thank them and explain that the service or product was disappointing... and learn from it all for the next time... You'll normally get a result in your favour or one that addresses the wrong... Just have the facts too so that you don't trip up... Your out to get the result.. Not have them hoodwink you with waffle and twaddle?

Good luck and it can be fullfilling too... I've had good results before... Upgrade products... Credits.. Discounts... It's worth the effort honestly!

Great post!

We try to get things put right, remain friendly and try giving whoever a second chance. When service / quality of goods are still not to an acceptable standard, we complain but always try to be fair, to the point and relating only to what was wrong without bringing other issues and people into the equation.

In more serious cases we write formally.

At the same time... we often look at each other and ask.. are we just having a bad day or was it really bad service.

;-)

If its not right we complain be that in a restaurant, supermarket, or company.

Best one was virgin media, we where with hem for 2 years and never paid a penny, because every single bill they sent us was wrong, so on the phone we got and usually after 2 or 3 calls and a few hours later they always amended it and put credit on our account for the inconvenience. They couldn't organise a shag in a brothel

Yup, I complain at each and every opportunity.

Usually I make a verbal complaint, see how it is handled then follow it up by an official complaint in writing.

On the other side of the coin, if I think a service or product has been particularly good, I'm not shy in giving praise.

It works both ways

Oh yes! LoL

I always complain, quietly and quite nervously (as I don’t like making scenes in public) at first. But if the person I make a complaint to mistakes my manner for fear and tries to fob me off or bully me, well my attitude volume and indignation increase and if I am going to be involved in a public show I put on a good one!

I am quite well read and erudite, which belies my “rough” exterior and am happy to verbally wipe the floor with any shop assistant or waiter who tries to belittle me. It is quite funny to watch the change in attitude as they work out that I am broadcasting their poor service, quality and attitude to any who wish to listen.

I find quoting the “sale of goods act 1979 (goods must be fit for purpose, and carries up to 2 years in prison)” or “food safety act1990 (sect 7, 8, 14 rendering food must not be injurious to health, selling food not complying with food regs, selling food not of the quality required each offence carries a £20,000 fine and 6mths in prison[magistrates, 2yrs prison crown court) ask the waiter/junior manager to take their pick, then start asking onlookers to act as independent witnesses and for their names and contact details (speaking very quietly to onlookers but raising volume to max for anyone who works in the place) works wonders.

I find that as I gain an audience/witness contact details, and the place empties the senior management arrive and I get my complaint dealt with immediately and to my satisfaction.

However I too always compliment good service and whenever someone goes out of their way to help me I write to their MD’s to praise their company service and name person involved.
