I was, as a kid, took me a long time to sort myself out. Not just at school but my family too.

But in many ways, I'm eternally grateful. It made me think about many things about people and life in general, and the person talking here today is strong and confident as a result of that.

my son was bullied all through school by the same boy. We involved the police at one point and I took him to the doctor many times to document injuries including an entire imprint of the sole of a shoe on his leg. Schools are useless at dealing with this kind of situation.

Once he got to secondary school things were dealt with in a much better way and although the boy still tried to bully my son he was kept well away from him for the most part.

I have to say though that my son dealt with it in a very mature way with our support and the only effect it seeems to have had on him is to make him very protective of people if it seeems that they are being bullied.

I was quite badly bullied at school and also had a somewhat physical and emotional bullying relationship with my parents.

It has shaped me more than anything in my life and is responsible for what I consider the best and worst of my qualities.

I despise bullies, despise bigots and despise violence and always will.

I was bullied at primary school by two girls for quite a while, then one day I just snapped and ended up fighting with one of them...violence may not be the answer to everything, but it certainly stopped them! I never intended to snap and was as surprised by it as everyone else, but the thing that annoyed me the most about it was that the teacher got my Mum in because of me fighting and told her he knew I was being bullied but couldn't do anything about it until I told him about it. Fortunately I eventually stood up for myself, but what would he have done if I'd have gone the other way and harmed myself? Think because of that I'm not someone who can sit back and watch and so have probably put myself in a couple of silly situations since to protect people.

I was bullied in school from year 4 to year 11..

All stopped when I jumped up and planted one of the lads with a chair..

As much as everybody may think it was an over reaction but teachers did nothing. It even happened on the street..

They used to nick my bikes, push me in rivers (the fast flowing ones) and in ponds.

Egged my house, would post dog shit in my letter box.. they also bullied my sister and brother..

Needless to say as soon as the chair went flying the whole class went quiet. Even the teachers were shocked to see me flip as I was a quiet one in school.

Best thing I ever did if you ask me.

I lived in London until I was 10. I was bullied every day from the age of 5 until we moved. I was told by my bullies I would get it worse moving to the countryside. I made a vow that it wouldn't happen. 2 girls tried bullying me used to hit me etc then I lost my temper ended up in court at 11. I never got bullied again. I hate bullies with a passion.

I went to a school the kids ruled it, teachers were literally crouched in a corner crying, some locked in cupboards other swearing and shouting at people, but the school doesn't exist now Bullying was part of everyday life there I often had comments made but didn't take it too heart, it's when things get physical its a lot harder but it could be why my self confidence is very low.

And yet if this person fought back. He would have got slated by others. We live in a strange place. I don't care who you are. Everyone has a breaking point. You lash out at others/things or harm yourself. Which is why I said in another thread if my child came home and said someone hit them and said it was because they bullied someone. I would say its your own fault, not go to the police and I would apologise for their bullying antics. I maybe "wrong" here, but there is a difference between a bully and giving a bully a slap. A bully goes out of their way to upset people. A slap is a something used as a last resort to stop suffering and make people happy and not live in fear, etc.

Sounds like my old school, which is still going . Violence to me is nothing. I would rather someone try starting a fight on me and then things blow over in the next few days. Rather than being belittled in everything I say/do, etc. Bruises, cuts and broken bones heal. Mental scars don't.

My daughter was also bullied at school. The headmistress told me where she should play on the playground. I went mad. Anyway one day my daughter hit each and everyone of the bullies boys and girls. They were so nice to her after. She also wasn't a bully. X

when my eldest was at school she kept being picked on by one particular girl

in the end I told her to kick her next time which she did and cut the girls knee badly

I got called in after the mother complained to which I said her kid deserved it she didn't know she was bullying my daughter they shook on it and were best friends

I was bullied abit in school in my early years but by the time I was a teenager I decided no more after about 15 girls (teenagers) jumped me, after that I decided no one was gonna touch me again and the next person who tried to punch me got me than she bargain for and ended up pinned up against the wall by me, that and my big gob and a witty answer for everything was enough to give me a rep as a tough bitch not to be messed with and I turned into the go to girl if anyone was being picked on id go and sort it out.

May not be everyone's answer but it worked for me and I didn't have to fear going on the school bus or into town after school anymore.

Never been bullied, not even when I was at boarding school over here at the age of 14 having left home for the first time, and of ethnic minority.

I put up a good fight the first night at school, it was only a pillow fight with the other 2 girls that shared my Dom, and the words got round I guess.

Another event at school a year or so later taught me to speak my mind and not to be a sheep that follow the herd.

Those 4 years at school instilled self-confidence and esteem in me to stand on my own feet to this day, and I am eternally grateful to my parents who had the foresight to send me here for a better education.

Never been a bully myself, as I am sufficiently intimidating without trying very hard.

I was bullied all my way through school due to being slightly on the larger side from 10 till 15 and it certainly shot my self confidence to pieces and also led to a poor attendance and school and ultimately leaving with no gcse results worth showing. I made decision to face them head on after years of name calling in the form of aggression battered every single one which led to expulsion which taught me that was not the right decision it was only once I started to work and up until now that my confidence has been rebuilt and the bullying taught me to sometimes shrug it off and laugh at them because they are just pathetic small people most the time with more problems than you and that's why they turn to bullying folk

I was bullied in my last yr of school,. i was quiet and loved learning while others at my age were trying to grow up to soon. So i stuck out like a sore thumb.

Until one day in class, i just snapped and attacked the girl (ringleader) . I saw red and just went into a rage. It took 2 teachers to pull me off and they took her away to be checked ,.My headmistress said i needed evaluating re a trick cyclist....

My mom took me and after chatting to him for about an hour he said to my mom..."she isnt mad, she had just had enough"

I dont condone violence for the sack of it but we all have a limit and i had reached mine.

It changed me and my outlook in life and i decided that no one would ever do that to me again....in any form.

When my son was targeted i actually told him to give the ringleader a right crack....he did. and the bullying stopped.

Most bully and get away with it because they go unchallenged, a good left hook normally stops them in their tracks.

I was bullied a lot in school. All verbal and mental apart from one incident a girl threatened me with a knife. I was confident in primary school secondary school I had my close friends and even they wouldn't say anything when vile things were being spouted. Its only now that my confidence is coming back and as judge mental as it sounds I still avoid those that look the sort.

I think I'm now the 3rd person in thread to say yes to being bullied at school and at home by so called mother. School was all verbal threats but it kind of isolates you. Home, well my dear sweet mother has taught me one thing in life - how not to treat my own daughter. Her bullying or attempts at bullying have even gone on until early this month. From a woman of 65 so far this year I've had unwanted calls, texts, vile emails with awful attacks on my character and a visit out of the blue. She lives 2 hrs from me and turned up unannounced. Thankfully I was out.

Still like at school, I refuse to be a victim so I've escalated the problem I have with her along with another problem the family have kindly unloaded on me over 5/6 years. One issue has led me to go to the Police. Result - silence. And long may it continue.

Had enough - not putting up with anymore bollox.

No fucker has the right to treat you like that and make you feel your life is worthless. I know it gives you low esteem, but try to be level headed and remember - who is in the wrong. If it continues you're better off with them out of your life. You have a right to be happy.

I was bullied at school by one particular girl.I was an easy target being very shy.However, one day I spotted her in the communal showers after a PE lesson.For some reason,I took one look at her and started laughing.(She was overweight,had saggy boobs and ginger pubes)I didn't point or make any comments,just laughed.She never bothered me again,Now before im accused of being sizeist or gingerist,I feel its worth pointing out that bullies generally have low self esteem and from that day onwards I always make a point of looking for a potential bullys Achilles heel and pointing it out.That does not make me a bully.It makes me a coper in all walks of life be it in a working environment or in my private life.

Thank you. I'm not naturally aggressive, so to have to kick back is a big thing for me. I've had some pretty low days I can tell you but I made up my mind as a teenager contemplating suicide, that I'd never let anyone do that to me. But it's hard, very hard and threads like this just go to show how many people are affected / people you might not expect.

I had similar when starting a new job, they didnt think they needed anyone else and i got very close to telling them where to shove their job and walking.

I didnt though and took great pleasure in turning up every day and doing my job and it made me laugh seeing they wasnt gonna beat me.......

When i did eventually leave they begged me not to go..... go figure

I was always the skinny kid at school and very short (not grown much more know though) and I was bullied everyday.. Then finished school.. Found the gym.. Grown a lot bigger than they would ever think and now I see them bullies who won't give me a second glance.. But I've learn that bullying is not right so there is nothing I would ever do to them except say hello.. It would shock them even more..

This is a very difficult one for me.

I (Mr) was bullied for quite a while during my school days. The local "well 'ard" thought I was a soft touch (which I was) because I wouldn't ever fight back, I just didn't want to fight, or hurt, anyone, even though I was quite big for my age. My father died when I was 13 and was very ill for a few years before so I didn't have anyone to toughen me up. One day I snapped and gave my main tormentor a terrible beating, for which I got into a shit load of trouble for. After that I started to get a bit more respect, and a lot less (almost no) bullying.

To my eternal shame, because at 14 I didn't know any better, I turned into one of the bullies that I had detested so much.

It took an incident around a year and a half later to make me see how much of a nasty bastard I'd become.

A kid who had been a good friend of mine was being picked on by some other bullies (who were now my so called "friends") and I joined in, thinking it was so funny. Afterwards I looked at my former friend in a crumpled heap and in tears, and I've never forgotten the flood of shame and remorse that came over me.

From that day to this I have never bullied anyone in any way, and will always stand up to anyone who tries it on with me or any of my family and friends.

I had a bit of trouble at school, partly because I was so skinny, but also because I wouldn't grovel or kow tow to the nutjobs. However, I've always been lucky when it came to violence. I'd say something that set them on edge and then I'd vanish just as they reached boiling point and the next kid who just asked them if they'd seen the match or something else innocuous got a clout.

I never really felt bullied, as I couldn't take the entire thing seriously, it was all so laughable to me.

Basically I said sometimes bullies only listen to violence as sometimes walking away doesn't help as they are persistent. So the longer you'll leave it. The more damage they do in the long run. Well that wasn't how I worded it, but that was the jist of it.

Is it Sam or Amber? I sympathise and I also hope you don't class me as a bully after a few of the posts I have made in here?

It seems a lot of people don't. So obviously they haven't seen the damage it can do to someone if you don't fight back. Everyone has a limit. Some don't get bullied because they lose their cool eater quick. So damage is minimal. Whether some people cope with it for years, bottle it up and finally snap.

Yes I have. Almost all the way through my childhood and also in some of my previous relationshps.. Think I just attract them, cos I certainly don't invite them into my life!

Hmm you've just described my mother there, but I would never lower myself to twatting her! That would be compromising my morals and beliefs and that would never do. At least I have a clear conscious and I'm happy with that. I sleep easy at night

Suppose with a mother its different. Plus once you feel you can't feel any worse about yourself. Morals go out the window, even for a split second.

I got my decree absolute from him last week

It's taken me up till I had cancer 3 years ago to realise actually I'm ok

I was bullied for a lot of years at school. Till I snapped. Then 32 years on had another moment of online bullying sure found out who my friends where then. I am strong because of what I went thought I am so have lots of walls up because of it. Keep ur friends close

My son stood up to some bullies who were pushing a younger kid about...it cost him his right eye.

He is now still standing up to these bullies as 3 are on trail in feb which is expected to run into a 2 week trail...he has been approached to drop charges but is going ahead with his head held high and im so proud of him.

I do hope it will teach them a lesson.

Those 3 can still get to him, even though they are in custody or they out on bail until the trial? Sounds like me in the olden days. Now I stay well clear of any areas that may have people like this around. Less chance of getting involved then as nothing like that has happened since I changed my way of thinking. One is remmanded and unfortunately he cant avoid school thats where they went back for him after the initial incident..ty one is looking at anything over 2 years

I would very strongly disagree with that. My son was bullied by a boy who resented him having a stable home life with two parents that isn't a weakness.

2 years . Someone defends themselves and/or home and they get a lot more than someone who actually went out of their way to do that . A sickening society we live in.

Sadly I think (although I maybe wrong), but parents can spot it at an early age, but refuse to believe it as its the one thing a mother wouldn't want their child to be. How spoilt/aggressive/violent they are all add up and if they can't stop it by a certain age. It will get out of control and that's how you get a bully. A lot of children who have these features as a child grow out of it through discipline, etc. Some aren't and they turn into bullies.

I punched ones lights out and was hero of the school. I was eight and that's as big a success as I have had.

Sadly as an adult I was to all intents and purposes constructively dismissed by a pair of foremen who blackballed me for having the guts to stand up for myself.

What goes around comes around though. I am sure Karma will even things out......

People always mention "karma". Karma only happens when someone at some point steps in. So leaving it and saying "karma" will get them is just stupid as no one is doing anything then as they all are saying "someone else will sort it out". Secondly karma is a load of bollacks as from what I have seen. Its the good ones that suffer in one way or another and the wronguns are going around as happy as anything.

I was bullied as a child but when I turned about 15 my granddad told me the next time a kid bothered me I should slug him as hard as I could in his jaw. He told me it would only need to be done once to set an example to the other kids.

It was really good advice lol

Exactly what I would tell my children if I had any. When I was at school there was a lad who suffered years of bullying. One day he just snapped and punched the daylights out of one of his attackers putting them in hospital. He was never bullied again..

so what you're sayin is revenge is the best way?

Karma is very real. It might not be somethin physical but mentally that bully could be tortured by emotional pain.

When someone does wrong to me I don't try and get them back for it, I wait till I hear of their misfortune. That makes me smile when I know the bad person is having rough time for whatever reason.

Yes I think we all know of people who have or are being bullied due to a weakness its even advocated as a defence against bullying, somewhat ironically I feel, in this thread. But some people are bullies by nature and if they can't find a weakness will try and victimise a person for something they perceive to be a strength that they don't posess.
