Okay.... What bike did you have when you were a kid?

I looked lovingly at a Raleigh bmx burner.....but ending up getting a Raleigh grifter!

All the cool kids had burners or choppers....

So what did you have?

Grifters were built like ships... Lol my one ambition was to do just one skid but they were so heavy....lol... Did one on gravel and that was chuffed!

My friend had a Raleigh budgie and we did wheelies and tricks galore

I used to love my Raleigh Chopper. But the gear stick was a bit of a nut buster if you hit something and slid if the seat.

I bust me nuts on my Stowaway. Braked hard with the front brake, not thinking, and I flew off the seat into the steering column, nuts first. A nurse had to bathe them and check thet were ok

I had a Raleigh Burner GS, not just any bmx. I did have a go on my mate's Grifter and it was like trying to ride a tank.

Had another couple of classic accidents on my bikes too. One, I was riding to my mates carrying music cassettes in a plastic bag, draped over the handlebars. Cassette got stuck in the spokes, stopping the bike dead. I flew over the handle bars skidding along the ground using my knees as brakes aggggh!

I was given a second hand girls frame bike. This caused much humour with the cool grifter/bmx brigade.

Several attempts at gluing a metal top bar to make it look manly failed.

I resigned myself to the bike which I cycled for miles and miles of freedom. In the end, how you look doesn't really stop you being happy.

I really, really, really wanted a Grifter but never got one

I made my own bike from salvaged parts. Big cow horn handlebars, knobbly tyres and custom paint job. It was the mutts nuts.

Just to clarify - I really, really, really wanted a Grifter.

I had a budgie, then a grifter, then an awesome Raleigh Burner bmx which was waaaaay more expensive than the one I'd picked. Santa must have been rich that year - or it could be that my mum's mate worked for the TI group and got a discount on Raleigh bikes

Actually that's just made me think. I had a Raleigh Striker (smaller version of the Grifter). My brother had the Grifter.

Just remembered an incident when I pulled a wheelie on my budgie, misjudged it, pulled up too much and cracked my head open on the road!!
