Gotta ask myself, do guys really feel that sending your first message with, "Hi, read ya profile, like the sound of you, wanna meet for a f**k? " really work? You really are making even harder for us single genuine. Effort guys, it isn't hard.

I can see this thread turning into the debate about getting replies!

In my experience it doesn't matter if you write a one line 'hi read your profile' message, or a more indepth message because 99.9% of the time they are unread and deleted.

No, effort isn't hard but reading the damn thing isn't hard either and if you write emails with alot of effort behind them and their merely ignore does that give you any incentive to keep writing anything but 'hi, read your profile' messages?

I don't think it's a matter of rules - it really depends on how the person writing the message likes to portray themselves. I prefer well thought out messages and I'm more likely to reply to those than the ones with 3 or 4 words.

To be honest i think the guys who use lines like that tend to be the ones who think because they are on a swingers site that everyone is ready to drop their knickers for them there and then. Granted there are probably a few on here that that sort of line may work for but for the vast majority it just results in instant deletion of the message and possibly a block of that person too. Some people just dont know how to conduct themselves on a site like this

Seriously though, I always *Read* the profile and *if* I fit the criteria, send a message saying why I liked the profile and why I think I fit, and then anything specific about myself that may be relevant and/or possibly (hopefully) of interest.

Then only 90% get deleted as apposed to 99%! LOL

Although to be honest I don’t send out so many now days as I’m playing with regular friends

and only send out messages to good, obvious, local, matches. It helps.

As an aside: I should point out that just by posting here on the Forms, I have been noticed and approached by couples and even those rare ‘single bi females’ who say they don’t want single males on their profiles! LOL

Yeah, the reason being that you aren't sending out a load of messages to people who really don't match up.

I actually send very few messages now as well, not because of regulars though, just because there aren't that many I think suit me. As a result, the ones I do send tend to get more replies... Of the ones that still don't get a reply, I generally assume that I didn't assess what they were looking for correctly, and never matched in the first place. Or they just didn't fancy me.

I think when guys first get to a site like this, they frantically message lots of people trying to get a meet, assuming that the finer points and details of a profile are irrelevant, when really they aren't. I admit I did the same myself initially.

Unfortunately, there's no way of getting them to realise before they join the site, and I bet some never do no matter how long they are here.

But then I wouldn't have an advantage

Fair point, we appear to be doing similar things. Although I am on more than one site so spreading the net further LOL.

Although as a new guy on any site you need to make a serious effort; you do need to send out mails and keep the profile up on the boards etc, or you won’t be noticed. It’s a numbers game unfortunately; its just sales whether people like the idea or not, most of us like a good sales pitch, even if we are not in the market for the product. Look at good TV adverts, I don’t smoke but I still remember the Silk Cut ones, it was wasted on me directly as a sales pitch but it hit a lot of smokers while doing it.

Quality wins 1 to 1, but you need to keep the numbers up when you start. The bit that causes all the pissing and moaning is that some do try it, and still don’t get that great a response. That’s when you need to stick at it, not give up and go for the shotgun approach.
