The arcade game I loved the most was Mr Du.

I'd spend hours and pounds on that every night down the local chippy when I was about 16yrs old. I didn't have the highest score (only about 200,000) but I did have a unique record for never having missed those random diamonds that appeared and gave you a free game.

Get Dexter and Spindizzy on the CPC464 and Brian Bloodaxe on the Speccy were the home games of the 80's for me, well until I got a modem and started running up giant phone bills playing MUD. Most of the 90's were spent playing Civ.

No one has mentioned Mario? Doom? Starcraft? Baldur's Gate? Half-Life?! I can't be the only video game geek on the site.

Beneath a Steel Sky, Cavewars, Jazz Jackrabbit, Heretic, Hexen, Myth, Thief, Dark Omen, Worms and so on. All of the above, and many more I'm sure I'm missing, have taken up more of my time than I care to think.

I started to lose interest in games when you needed to have a console like the flight deck of an airliner instead of just left, right or up, down, and fire/jump or just a joystick. That is until about 1999 (just within the time frame of the posting ) when we had our first PC here which came with Rogue Squadron. I'd waited 22 years to play a game where I could really fly an X wing fighter, and I didn't stop till I had completed the whole thing

Sensible Soccer on the Amiga was sooo addictive.

Target Renegade on the spectrum sticks out for me.

Try this link, and don't blame me for the lost hours!

Outrun and Checkered Flag racing games from the arcades were good, but it was the Defender-type game "R-Type" that I lost myself in.... The evil Bydo Empire.... there was a film where an expert arcade game player was zapped up to space to fly for real in an intergalactic war..... I still dream...
