Why does mineral water that has “trickled through mountains for centuries” go out of date next year?

Light.

any algie spores in bottling plant that get into the water will grow.

If kept in the dark, you can ignore the best before date entirely.

It's a good point, I'm surprised there is a sell by date on cookies in the supermarket, I'm lucky if they make it to the car lol

It's probably a best before date to cover them in case it goes bad after a year, and there's probably more than just water in it, and its probably just tap water from a public loo.

In addition to the valid light/photosynthesis reason, the water will be slowly absorbing miniscule amounts of plastic molecules. Drink enough bottled water and you get Plastic Surgery from the inside.

In reality, Marketing. If one was daft enough to buy it in the first place, one would be daft enough to buy some more.

It doesn't really come off the mountains. It comes from Del Boys tap.

It has to have a BB date on it, even if it can't go off.

I had a friend who worked in the factory that made that crap UHT milk. When the milk was getting close to its sell by date, it came back to the factory, the old date was removed, a new one stamped on, then shipped back to the shops.

A friend of mine did some of her phd research testing bottled water against tap water and without exception the tap water had much lower levels of bacteria and spores.

Did you knoww that if you drink this type of water just after it is bottled it will kill you , why because its full of added chemicals to extend the shelf life . Most bottled water once stagnated will taste off in 24 hours . Moving water oxinigates so keeps fresher longer.

And why is it more expensive than fuel for the car?

£1.40ish (give or take) for a litre of diesel. Can you gat a half litre bottle of water for less than 70p?

Because its a fashion, well was when it first started and people are soft enough to buy it

It is easier to carry a bottle of water around than a fully plumbed tap.
