"Its not a bad thing."

It's a waste of my time. I agree they should put filters into public places, but I don't see why I should have to ring my ISP to turn the filters off

I disagree.

I'd rather a quick call to confirm I'm an adult and that I want the adult filters off than them automatically being off and kids viewing all sorts x

Why can't parents ring up and ask for the filters?

I assume the companies have decided its safer this way.

Parents are just getting lazy these days if you ask me, want other people to bring up their kids for them

I'm not aiming this at you or at anyone in particular, it's just an observation I've had

And you think parents have the time to call them when they have kids to look after, tea to make, washing to do, arses to wipe. The majority of the population who have the internet have kids aswell so it cuts down on staff for the ISP's, calls waiting etc. Just call them and stop whining

Just found this about sky which is my current internet provider...

"Sky Broadband customers will be asked to make an active choice about the filters when getting online with Sky for the first time, or when they upgrade their routers," explains the company.

You need to choose wether you want to allow PG, 13 or 18. It takes 2 seconds and will be as part of a router upgrade for me so I will be on the phone anyway. So it's no skin off my nose. No waste of my time either.

Only takes 5 to 10 minutes (your words), sure parents can find the time to call it if it doesn't take long

Is literally worth getting this wound up about it? I suspect a lit of patents will also be calling up as they will want to visit adult sites as well.

Now. How do I broach the subject of my dad ringing up our internet provider cos I want to access Fab??

Why assume it's filters off because of children ?

There are billions of adults who don't want XXX rated violent / sex images and texts automatically coming at them without them asking.

I think it's a good thing to actively have to ask to have the filters removed, it's not just naughty sites, it stops access to gambling sites.

This is a good step forward for internet safety for minors and I thoroughly support it.

I'd hazard a guess you can change your settings online without the need to call your ISP do should be a very painless exercise.

That's a good point!!! I've googled some fairly innocent stuff before and been alarmed at what comes up!

by the time you wrote that, you could have called yours up to install filters, you know, because you don't want your kids to see anything they shouldnt and a good parent does what they can to protect there childred

Is it really such a huge problem?

All you have to do is a give them a quick tinkle!!

I would rather the blanket cover to protect children! I really don't have a problem with making a quick call to get filters lifted!
