Does poor spelling and bad grammar put you off?

Slightly snobby I know but its one of the main things I hate when looking at a profile. If a profile is well written for some reason I feel like I'd get on with people more than people who can't write properly.

And as for those that are entirely in text speak....

Up to a point it can do. Whilst not everyone can spell or punctuate well a profile does need to be readable at least. When it seems to have been written in an unintelligible stream of consciousness then I simply move on to the next one.

We tend to look no further if its all abbreviations, spelling and grammar mistakes. It rarely seems that there are classy pics attached to such profiles.

If people can't be bothered to spend time on their profile will they be considerate at a meet??

Yeah, it seems like more of an effort thing to me.

It's not only effort - think it says a lot about their intelligence level as well. You want someone to be good company, to have a chat and a laugh with.

You can't spend ALL your time shagging. Nice myth but let's all live in the real world!

Massive turn off. If you can't string a sentence together then we have no chance of meeting.

Just because someone is unable to spell or use grammar correctly, doesn't mean that they are not intelligent tho

Not really not everyone's perfect, just because someone can't spell doesn't mean their not a nice person...

But if its really bad and I'm struggling to read it or make head or tail of it... Then I tend to give up.

Brighton - even Hove!

OP: do not casteth a stone as it might bounce back and hit you in the knob.

What I mean to say is that you need to look at your own profile as I have spotted some amusing mistakes and examples of incorrect grammar, punctuation, use of a wrong word and txt speak.

As I have always had problem's with grammar, punctuation since school that I don't judge people by it. If you know me you'll find I can make conversation's with the best of them.

Some people can spell, some karnt. I'd not decline a meet just based on how they spell or structured a sentence, but it would militate against a meet should it be truly appalling.

The funny thing is, I've met a few peeps at socials and thoroughly enjoyed their company, looked up their profile and discovered they can't spell, so

I don't take too much notice even though I think spelling and grammar are important I sometimes make mistakes and the writer could be dyslexic

I find my use of English is deteriorating since I started typing in forums. I often annoy myself by using "your" instead of "you're".

There is a vast difference between being dyslexic and just very poor at English grammar and spelling. If everyone on here who had a bad profile text claimed that they had dyslexia then it would be the case that the entire population of dyslexics in the country were congregated on one site - some people use the term incorrectly to excuse their bad writing.

One of my friends on here is dyslexic. He doesn't write that badly - yes, he makes mistakes, as one would expect, but nowhere near as bad as some of the unintelligible drivel I receive in messages.

And EVERY single time someone mentions the poor English skills of some on here there is someone who pops up with the dyslexic label. Not a single person who has begun a thread about this has EVER intended to attack, insult or upset dyslexics. They do not target dyslexics. They are not talking about dyslexics. So there really is no need to mention them whatsoever.

We ALL know what is meant - ALL of us. And it is disingenuous to assume or infer otherwise.

" I have never had a phone I really liked to go on the net and with a spell check .. But maybe some find it hard to write well on them and posting here."

There are plenty of people on here who have English as an additional language and who are capable of constructing a decent message - even if it is not perfect. And then there are native speakers for whom English is their Mother Tongue, apparently, who decide to commit matricide every time they touch a keyboard.

Opened a can of worms!

I think some missed the point of the OP. Including those who chose to spell check my own profile.

It wasn't a dig at people with the odd comma missing, capital letter in the wrong place, the odd lol inserted hear and there, etc, far from it, I'm not that pedantic. It was directed at those profiles and statuses that you need to read a few times to make head nor tale of them.

Anyway, must get back to my dictionary
