"What has this got to do with the public? I'd understand maybe if the news was that she was pregnant but I don't give a toss that she wants a gastric band. Is it relevant to the fact that she is baby p's mother? No. Is it just another band wagon to jump on. No one that's ever been in prison can ever access the nb.s. again!!!! " I'm inclined to agree with this. Also she might want one that doesn't mean she'll get one. At what point does anyone suggest that her access to NHS treatment is cut off? I have a feeling I know what lots of answers to that will be.

"How can it be right that someone can put on weight while they are in prison then there are lots of decent people who cant afford to eat that much. " Did she? I thought she was overweight before she went in. I would never defend her but our justice system doesn't allow us to deny food to prisoners or medical treatment.

I also don't agree with capital punishment and I certainly don't wish anyone to die. Only if their weight is life threatening and they have virtually no chance of being able to lose the weight by other means, I'd say. I don't know how big the woman is, what her health is like and what methods of weight loss she's tried, so I can't comment on her alleged request. I have mixed feelings about gastric bands anyway. I don't think they are the magic easy fix a lot of people seem to think they are. Treating the causes of the over-eating and adapting the person to a healthy diet to achieve gradual weight loss seems more sensible to me. I haven't heard the matter discussed from the point of _iew of someone who wants/has a gastric band though so my outlook is one-sided.

So why on earth should a criminal record exclude her? She isnt ill though she is just overweight. " I'm pretty sure that if she meets the criteria for having a gastric band, her weight will be making her very ill indeed. They don't do them on the NHS for cosmetic reasons. Ok so the weight gain could be seen as self-inflicted. So are sports injuries, smoking related illness, alcohol related illness, drug addiction and related complications, and a whole host of other injuries and ailments. Should the NHS refuse to treat everything that could be considered self-inflicted? Also, consider the potential ongoing cost of treating her for all the health problems she is likely to experience throughout her life if she doesn't lose the weight, and of providing care if she needs it, (which is likely). Spending the money to help her lose the weight now may save the NHS money overall.

Just because some people are enlightened enough yo see through the media hype and see that this is really a nothing story designed to anger the masses doesn't mean that we feel more for the perpetrator than the victim This story has no relevance to the crimes committed. Like I said, if the story was about her being pregnant again I could see the relevance. I do find it interesting that people who failed to see the positive news stories behind Tom Daley being in a relationship with a man and Susan Boyle having aspergers have jumped on this non news story with such abandon.

Maybe she wasn't convicted of his murder, but she certainly doesn't appear to have done much to prevent it. "Out of curiosity I just read this article in the mirror. It is clearly fictitious and sensationalist. Im not sure what is more depressing that this crap is passed off as journalism or that people are gullible and/or stupid enough to believe it. " I dont think people are stupid or gulible for believing what they read or hear on the news, how are the general public suppose to know whats true and what isnt?

And story really is the operative word? The source is another anonymous resident in the bail hostel she supposedly lives in who has allegedly said that she eats crap all day and wants a gastric band so she can meet a new man but doesn;t want to diet. It is journalism at it's very, very worst with every word designed to incite hatred and contempt.
