I never really thought much of my hair, yes it dye it various colours from time to time and its quite long at the moment but i dont mind what the haidresser ever does to it

but this morning in the shower it was just coming out in clumps and i was so afraid to brush it. Made me really sad.. guess my hair means more to me than i realized.

Dont think id ever shave it off though. I understand chemotherapy has hair loss effects and credit to those people who can deal with it.

So just how important is your hair too you? Guys with reseeding (sp?) hair lines/bald patches do you cut it all off or just let it go?

I use the Aussie repair stuff, figured as I'm an Aussie it might repair me

Do you know that it's normal to lose around 100 hairs per day? As your hair is longer than usual you may be thinking it's more than you normally lose because 100 longer hairs look like more than 100 shorter hairs.

Also if you've been ill and not been out maybe you have not been brushing your hair as much and you have more than one day's loss just waiting to fall out when you wash it. That's what I tell myself anyway

Try some supplements, vitamins etc

Its not often I blow my own trumpet but I have great hair. It only needs washing twice a week, I rarely style it (ponytail at most), I cut it myself. It doesn't even get brushed everyday! And still always looks pretty good

Hair always falls out, but more In autum and spring when the hair is renewing for the new season.

There are many factors that can cause hair loss and stress is one of the biggest ones, if you are overly concerned see your doctor they can help give you a reason

On my dad's side of the family everyone died with a full head of hair and were fairly well built.

On my mum's side they are all built like whippets, anyone who hits 9 stone is a heavyweight and losing hair is the norm.

I'm about 8 and a half stone. Everyday I wake up with hair I'm counting as a bonus. One day I know I shall just have a note from it saying adios.

Losing hair is so different to making a choice to get rid of it. Check whether your medication is adding to the hair loss. I hope it sorts itself out soon.

I wash mine every day, it's long as I am not sure what I want to do with it and it appears that I lose several handfuls every day. But it's normal loss. I always go with the "it will grow back" whenever I do anything with my hair.

When I was hit several times on my head and the hospital shaved off odd clumps that wasn't so great but it did grow back.

my hair started coming out a lot a few years ago when i washed it, i havnt gone bald yet though its still quite thick. its better when i get it trimmed.

my hairs very fine and gets greasy so have to wash it every day but the one good thing is i havnt got that many grey hairs and is in good condition.

Very. I like to change the colour of it and the style. I had it in a bob for a few years but am now growing it. I abuse mine with straighteners and products but so far so good! I use a serum on it after I've washed it as its very dry.

I get lots of compliments about my hair colour and style, and I take good care of it...but having seen a very close friend recently lose all of hers during chemo it just doesn't seem quite so important anymore. She was brave enough not to wear a wig, and wouldn't let her friends shave their heads in unity.

I've been thinning on top for years, so these days shave it right down. Really, being bald doesn't bother me, its a very fashionable look these days (though with the number of balding young guys I see around, I wonder if this is out of necessity!).

I do love my hair but it doesn't make a difference to me on men. Amazing meets with bald men probably more than haired men lol.

I only colour mine to cover the grey. I don't want to pretend to be something I am not really. I don't cut it regularly as always seems to be something else to put the money to. It does take me hours to wash dry and make it look good x

My hair regularly falls out worse was when I say running condtioner through it and lost handfuls of it. Im a bugger for dyeing it only did it again yesterday but thinking I should dye it close to my natural colour and leave it alone. No matter how hard I have tried it wont grow past shoulder length and I would love longer hair!

My hair has fallen out in clumps. My hairdresser is a magician and her weaving skills fantastic but I've been wearing wigs. It is depressing. I'm not a jealous person but there's a black guy I see at the station every morning with the biggest, thickest afro I've ever seen, and all I think is "how unfair".

I've started a new relationship and I'm dreading having to tell him I have alopecia. Losing my hair has affected me much more than I thought. Karma as my mum went bald at my age and I used to laugh at her.

I have a weave in, was expensive but worth it, I love it, its so long lush and thick, needs tightened every 8-12 weeks. I also do my roots every 10 days so its always perfect black n shiny, no trace ov grey lol. Love doing alsorts ov updos n stuff, spend a lot ov time and money on my hair. It makes me happy tho

Mine is important I find at the moment it is coming out in handfulls again. All to do with the thyroid problems I think.

I would be devastated to lose it all tho. I had alopecia in my early 20's and again when I had my son prematurely. Lost a clump behind my ear 10cm round over night. thankfully no more since then.

Try not to worry only makes loss worse.

I have shoulder length dark brown curly hair which I used to spend a great deal of time looking after, then somebody very close to me lost all hers due to cancer and my outlook changed.

I now just wash and condition once a week and loosely wear it up for work - some things are just more important I feel.

It's taken me years to go from a short pixie haired brunette to a shoulder length blond......wouldn't want to have to have it cut off at the moment but never say never, I quite fancy being a redhead

My hair was always really long then I was in a pretty serious car crash a few years back and somehow ended up with a few bald patches from the impact. When I was able to I went to a friend and she cut it all of I went very extreme and shaved all round the sides and just had the bit on top. I now constantly experiment with my hair but always keep it short. It was probably the most liberating thing I have ever done after years of using my hair as a shield I now have a new found confidence.

I had mine taken off had it all off after id grown it to my arse....did it for charity and when it first went they plaited it and just cut it off at the base pf my neck and i cried....but a little girl got hair from my hair and i cried again but it was kinda special and id do it again.

I have the thickest mop of hair that grows like wild fire tho x

Having long hair's been my defining feature since my early teens. When the top of my head became a solar panel I was pretty gutted. Seriously considered shaving it all off but decided not to in the end. I just wouldn't feel like me, and no bugger would recognise me.

For ladies its a tad harder I do feel for those who lose there hair for what ever reason .... But a woman who can carry off a shaved head has my greatest respect

I'll be honest, if my hair looks crap, I usually feel crap. I used to have beautiful, thick, curly hair but I lost a lot of it during chemotherapy, I was lucky not to loose it all, it just thinned out big time, my heads a lot lighter now, and I do miss the thickness and volume, I'm lucky, my hair's in great condition and stupidly long atm so I can create volume still

Would love to shave it off for charity but simply haven't got the bollocks!

Very important!! I've always wanted straight hair rather than my Shirley temple curls it wasn't I've had a brain tumor scare recently that changed my mind. They did the talk at hospital about what if etc said it would involve surgery all I was bothered about and ended up in floods of tears over was the thought of my head being shaved then loosing it if I had to have chemo. Crazy really when what was important was if I did have a tumor.

As for the numerous comments on my observation, (observation you'll note, not insult or accusation or anything else), you apparently need to have a word with yourself, if not your profile.

You made a comment that was not clearly a joke. I made a comment on that. All you had to do was say you were joking and it would have died. There was no reason for all this over-sensitive nonsense.

I tried to shave mine off for charity but they asked me not to as the women involved like my hair. Instead, I agreed to keep it long until the end of the year just for them.

I have quite thick hair which is naturally curly. That sometimes gets on my nerves but other than that I never really give it much consideration.

However, I think if I started to lose it I may well feel differently.

I'll see you on the gridiron field at a stated time...I get the fact you are outspoken...It was you who started the argument mentioning my profile which is clearly against forum rules unless the poster has asked for advice etc on their profile.

Commenting on or criticising a profile without being asked, unless it's relevant to the thread, is against the rules. I did neither. I pointed out the discrepancy between the age given in your post and that on your profile. You claim it was humour. That wasn't obvious.

Apart from anything else, if you thought I'd broken the rules, the correct thing to do is to report and ignore the post, not start a tirade of multiple posts of snide nonsense. THAT is in the rules too, or don't they apply to you?

Well, i've started growing mine again - so ask me in two years how's it going.

Haven't shaved in 3 days and it's doing my head in. But i miss my shoulder length hair, and being mistaken for an ' excuse me miss - oops sorry' lol

...Did they not see my beard too?? lol
