"MPs are set to receive an 11% pay rise when a parliamentary watchdog publishes its final recommendations on salaries this week.

The rise is due after the 2015 general election, and will take pay to £74,000.

All three party leaders disagreed with the rise when it was first proposed.

However the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority does not need to get the agreement of Parliament to bring in the changes."

I get one every April and something like every 3/4 years they will give me a small one in October, but in general it adds up the same of that makes sense? However I don't tend to see it for 2 reasons because of the increase the company I work for cuts back more so not really seeing the benefit there and when they don't cut back I don't see it in general as the taxman gets it. It works out better if I don't have a pay rise sometimes

Sounds like the usual MPs get wage increase you have to work until your 68 to pay for it

George Osborne says were in for more austerity

sounds like "your all in this together" from our government

It's quite funny watching MPs being quizzed about their pay rise by interviewers who are being paid many times more than an MP.

"It's quite funny watching MPs being quizzed about their pay rise by interviewers who are being paid many times more than an MP."

Whats even more amusing,is seeing how many actually turn up in the chamber to actually vote.

They claim they are busy doing other things, but what that actually is remains a mystery to most.

I suspect its usually setting up another nice little earner on the side,to help top up their meager pittance pay.

If you trust an MP, you should be denied the right to vote for being to gullible.

With the pairing system we have, most votes just cancel each other out.

I'd rather they were doing something more useful than just being lobby fodder.

A nice little system they have when they cant be arsed going to work for the day then.

Work as hard as a laxative and exactly the same result.

Central

They would be over paid on minimum wage zero hours contracts largely, based on 2nd home expenses, heating stables, building moats etc. Their say insecse alone per week is more than many exist on for a couple of months. Either there is no money, hence need for austerity, or there is. Sounds like their pay rise says there is no need for austerity. If they controlled the city of London corporation, which aids tax evasion and off shore tax havens, got the right tax paid here, then people would be paid appropriately. As it is, plebs. Serfs etc is all the majority are deemed to be. The majority are suffering, whilst £billions of our money goes to banks and millionaires.

It isn't just about 'cant be arsed'. It allows MPs to represent their country overseas (at conferences or the likes of Mandela's funeral) without having to rush back 3 or 4 times a day to vote. It's also useful if an MP is unwell.
