you want the abdication of the throne an the next in line to pass it up because they didnt make a public speech about Mandelas passing?

really?

nothing to do with, just maybe, they are grieving for the loss of a close friend, possibly

afterall, by the time these muppets in government came to power, mandela was already too ill to go galavanting around and meeting them all as he once did.

he always visited the royals when he visited, and they him when there, so a little short sighted jsut because they didnt jump to the beat of the viewing public

Haha

Not just because they didn't make a tv statement

I think they are too far removed from reality anyway

My point is more about what exactly they do ! ... Surely to fuck when something as important as the passing of such a great man happens it isn't too much to make a quick public appearance

If they can't do that . Well I think it's a joke

we we differ then.

i actually think it shows a little more decorum of them not to be jumping on the tv as soon as possible and harping on about how great they think he was, while winking into the camera or selling themselves to the populace.

Notice even B'liar has been wheeled out for interviews about the man, i mean, which rock has that slimy little shit been hiding under?

so no, i say good on them.

and they do plenty of public engagements in this country, and around the globe, as well as having to deal with people that love and hate them in equal measure, 24/7.

It's not about that at all

Any public statement is seen how its delivered

If it true what you say and they are grieving such a close friend surely a simple public statement would be applicable

If the royals are so respectable and loved then nobody will suggest they are seeking the attention / limelight

Again I just think its proof how far removed they are

And think its time for drastic changes

I'm not a royalist as you probably guess however if we have to have them let's get them into this century .. Might have a chance with wills

I think we should be more arsed about the weather than a muppet sat in gold chair.

The fact that Charles avoids paying tax through his charity work tells me that there in it for themselves.

The two royals that add colour to the mix Harry and Big Phil are the most entertaining. We need to see more of them two and Pippa bum.

Royals add to economy in a big way and that's the only reason I don't support the full abdication.

I for one am celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela today rather than mourning his passing ....

And so they should add to it, they drain enough from it, usually garnished with the latest excuse to get a foothold in the door of foreign economies and/or commodities! But hey...alls fair in love and war, eh?

Charles pays tax on his income from the duchy, he insists on it.

The duchy doesn't pay tax because it's not required to. Would you pay tax if you weren't required to?

I totally agree with an earlier poster who said that they were celebrating the life and work of Nelson Mandela today, he has been an inspiration to so many people in this world and I for one am glad to have lived at the same time as him, there have been few enough genuinely thought-provoking people around in our time.

"IMO .. The royal family is in need of a good shake up . She should abdicate . Charlie boy should refuse to take the throne and wills should take over !

I am a non-believer in the RF. As far as Lizzy abdicating is concerned, surely, if she was one of us commoners, she would have hung up her tiara and retired by now, giving Charlie a quick stint in the big chair before his turn to get out the pipe and slippers comes along. Wills does seem to actually be more likely to be in tune with the 21st century and the people of this country, so yes, bring him to the big seat and give him a chance to drag the monarchy kicking and screaming up to date, you never know, my opinions of the Windsors might actually improve

This is exactly my point

I mean wtf is she doing ? She's been on the throne donkeys years

Charlie boy is in his 60's and dying for a turn

And then there's wills who's in his 30's now

So the scenario is this .... Liz passes away ... Wow what a funeral and a cost to the tax payer that is

Then there's the crowning of Charlie boy ... Again another state ceremony at a cost

And not long after a repeat performance with wills !

Im gonna get some stick from the royalists about this but care not a jot

They are so far removed from reality it's untrue

Anyway where all in it together !!

So you'd like the Royals to be puppets? Are the Queen and Charles not Essex or Chelsea enough for you? A statement is appropriate enough for this occasion rather than jump on the vote seeking band wagon of every politician and their dog. The passing of Mandela is a sad occasion. He will be remembered for many good things. Rightly so. However the fact that the highest two royals not making a public statement in person does not show any sign of disrespect to the man. In fact it shows a bit of traditional class, which, is sadly lacking in this modern celebrity culture driven society today.

"Kick them all out. Make Britain a Republic and drag the country into the 21st century. "

Dragging the UK into the 21st Century is nothing to do with the Royals. It is upon the voting public and politicians. Unfortunately nobody has the balls to do what needs to be done to make our world a better place. A republic will not change the ecomonical and environmental problems that the world faces. Due to our ignorance and greed as a species. These are the real issues that face our society and the population of the world as a whole. If you feel that a Republic will drag the UK into the 21st century, I fear for your perspective of our future.

Can you look in the mirror and say you've done enough. I don't think any of us can. We complain and debate about life and the world daily. However we do not take any meaningful action. Instead we settle for keeping our words and actions to within our peer groups. All with no conviction to put ourselves out there. It takes true bravery to put yourself out there. Interesting to find out if any of us actually do. I know I can't say I do.....so are we all cowards....probably. The real issues in this world are not really issues. Although acknowledged as a problem. They will never be properly addressed as we only concentrate on ourselves and the hear and now. As a species we are supposed to be intelligent. Self confessed arrogance. If we really were as intelligent as we think we are then our world would be a very different place.

It's not 'our planet' - it was here long before us.

I'd say up till now it's in the balance but has headed in a good direction. People generally care about the world we live in and those we share it with and efforts are made to try and provide a good education.

Unfortunately even within one of the leading education systems in the world some people prove to be to difficult a challenge.

Whether we will ultimately be a positive contributor or not will defend in part on how many do make a positive contribution or if instead people waste their energy criticising from the side but offering nothing more than moaning, ignorant pessimistic dribble.

Realistically humans will have long died out and the world will continue happily along just as it did before we came along. On that basis I'll enjoy being here while I can.
