You shouldn't need to if u have a scratch post the claws should come off them selfs I've never cut my cats claws

ive never had a scratching post but they go out all the time climbing trees and fences etc.

i havent had mine clipped in 13 years but just recently one of then has developed really sharp claws that she likes to dig in me

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

If you're not an expert don't do them at home. If you cut them too short you'll damage the nerves in the claws.

They should keep them short naturally but indoor cats do tend to need them clipping more often.

Our female cat doesnt go out much, but we have some good scratch posts for her.... and she also bites her nails lol!

Funny you should say that, I could swear that my cats claws are particularly sharp at the moment, they seem to get through even the thickest winter clothes and right into my skin!

Nail clippers are fine, just make sure you don't cut too short. Also make sure you don't get scracthed to death trying to do it!

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

My old Tinker used to love me cut his claws for him! He would proudly display his recently manicure! You have to hold the claw up to the light to see where to cut the claw.

As mine are show cats, they have their claws clipped on a regular basis, they hate it. Just be careful yo no take to short as they bleed like a bugger. On white claws you'll be able to see the quick in them so that are easier, it's harder in dark claws.

My advice is get proper claw clippers FOR CATS they look like scissors and just take the tips off, that way you won't damage tip you're used to doing it.

If you are not sure what you are doing go to the vet as it can go wrong. Scratching posts are a better option and if pushed slightly file them but you could hurt the animal doing it yourself without the knowledge or the right tools.

You can do it at home but it might be helpful to have a vet show you how first.

My cats are kept indoors so they need theirs done regularly. Otherwise they can grow right round and pierce the pad.

Use proper clippers and cut the tip of the claw from the sides not from top to bottom. Stay well away from the pink bit at the base of the claw. That's the quick. If you cut it, it will hurt the cat and will bleed.

I put catnip spray on mine to encourage them to use it and rewarded them when they did. They soon got the idea, even at 6 years old. They still use the carpet occasionally but I pick them up and move them to the scratching post.

My cats don't go out so I clip their claws fairly often.

I use nail clippers and wait till one comes to me when I have them handy. As mine are very tame (their the breed most ragdolls are descended from) I just handle them firmly, one arm around them then holding the paw. If you press the pad it pushes the claw out so you can see it clearly to clip.

Cats with black claws are harder to clip cos you can't see the blood supply to the nail so easily.

You may find it's easier to wrap the cat in a towel so it can't wriggle so much - a handled cat will usually submit when you act decisively and it becomes clear that the cat won't get anywhere by struggling. I'd also suggest you do one paw at a time, leaving long enough inbetween for the cat to forget.

if your pussy is registered with a vet, usually a nurse will do them free and show you how, Ideally you need a strong light so you can see inside the nail, the blood vein is usually visable, unless your pussy has dark claws,

A very simple method of keeping cats claws trimmed is by cutting cats legs off. This also solves the problem of them SHITTING in my garden !!

Wouldn't have a prayer with my Coco, she'd scratch my eyes out lol and yeh sometimes my babies find my boobies amusing to dig lol especially when I have my fluffy dressing gown on!!!
