Insensitive boss

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

A company chief has been criticised after he turned up to work in a new £178,000 Ferrari the day after the firm had announced 45 redundancies.

Trevor Modell, a consultant and former director at engine makers Lister Petter Ltd, of Dursley, Gloucestershire, drove to the factory in the Ferrari 458 Italia supercar as staff were still reeling from the cuts.

OK - now he probably ordered it some time ago, possibly before the company decided to make redundancies.

BUT to choose THAT day to drive in to work with it seems more than a little insensitive, particularly at this time of year.

We're all in it together? I doubt those losing their jobs at that company will be thinking that.

He was no doubt that thrilled and excited to show off his new toy the feelings of others didn't even occur to him

That is a bit much, even by my top hat wearing capitalist standards.

I wonder were there any new dents or scrapes on it by going home time?

The Sunderland footballer Michael Gray turned up for training once in a brand new Ferrari the same week as a lot of people lost their job in a local factory. The manager at the time (Mick Mcarthy I think) gave him a right bollocking and sent him home and told him to come back in something a lot more sensible.

Insensitive? Yes, but there's some folk don't have any sensitivity in their make-up.

Either that or it's the only car he's got.

Possibly but he had just taken delivery of it so would most likely have still had his old car. And I seriously doubt anyone who could afford a brand new Ferrari wouldn't have another car.

From the shabby bit of 'journalism' on the Daily Mail website it says the bloke wasn't actually a boss for the company - he was a consultant. The staff weren't yet 'reeling' as the redundancies hadn't been announced.

No details of whether the bloke had another car, whether he had in fact paraded it or whether (perhaps more likely) the Union Rep had portrayed it that way and got sime scummy fuckwit at the Mail to print the tosh to cover up the fact they've fucked up yet another negotiation.

But don't let any of that get in the way of a good bit of outrage.

If he was a consultant (if your using consultants, you have to sack people to afford to pay for them), then he at least deserves dog shit smeared under the door handles. Why damage a nice car when you don't have to?

Yep, this, sadly.

From my experience, a lot of the people who end up in the position to be able to buy that sort of car brand new didn't get to that position by being considerate and caring towards others.

Most would mince their grandparents to make burgers if they thought there would be a few quid in it.

I think it was insensitive & thoughtless but what amazes me is the vindictive, jealous vandals on this site.

Supposed to be adults but many wish to smash the car, damage it, smear with dogshit.

Last week some d*unken yobbo decided to see if he could dent my 6yr old meriva by kicking it. Yeah, he could.

Wonder if he's on this site?

"That's why this country is going down the pan, it is not investing in anything other than poor corrupt management. "

The reason the country is struggling is because of greed, and people not wanting to work, when they can make as much not working on benefits.

In USA China profit is encouraged and is the reason people work hard. In uk success and profit is looked down on.

Profit is the reason business exists

The waiting list for that car it's months and months, he won't have I aid for it with that months pay packet, and you don't tend to buy a brand new Ferrari as your first supercar unless it's a lottery win, you start smaller and build up, so chances are he came from something similar. He'd have bought it with money accumulated over time and why the hell shouldn't he.? As has been pointed out many of the original "facts" of this story were incorrect.

He can buy what he likes. But it is still insensitive to drive into a place of employment where people are facing job losses.

Only if he's rubbing it in their faces and hadn't turned up in an Aston, Porsche or something similar the day before. Most people here have written him off as insensitive because of the headline new Ferrari but chances are good the day before he had an old Ferrari and to him it was the same as turning up in a new bmw or new merc.

"If he was a consultant (if your using consultants, you have to sack people to afford to pay for them)"

That makes no sense at all, how would you know that?

For all I know the bloke is an inconsiderate tosser and deserves some of the vitriol suggested. What I find interesting is that a post copy and pasted from the Daily Mail to stir up some indignation does so, so easily, regardless of how little is known about the truth or the people involved.

I actually know of a person who did something very similar. Zxrs old boss arranged to have his brand new db9 delivered to his office, at a time when he knew the boys would all be there, the day after telling them they had to take a pay cut or lose their jobs. It didn't go down to well as the excuse for the pay cuts was that the company was "struggling".

Never met a consultant who was worth what he thought he was. They were charging thousands a day, to tell the management something that they should have known already. So the management have proved that they don't know there arse from their elbow, and they can't tell when they are being ripped off.
