Thirteen hour days

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I saw a news piece earlier this evening at Korean children putting in 13 hours a day working at school and crammer classes. Little ones as well as teenagers.

One young woman was shown who gets back from classes at 11pm, gets to bed at 2am and is up again at 6am to start another day of the same.

The students are motivated to achieve academically and they are certainly taught to take tests but they are exhausted. Suicide rates are high.

I felt angry and sad for these young people. I also thought about the constant carping that our children and young people aren't doing as well academically. I would prefer happier, healthier children and young people able to experience play and childhood than achieving academic success by making them work for more than half of the day.

"There needs to be a balance. "

You only get one chance to be young. I wasn't young for very long and it is so sad to see something like this where a whole nation is ending the childhoods of so many so young.

Yeah, i just saw that on the news as well. All this comes at a price too. Did you hear about the statistics on the rate of suicides of these young people?

..shocking!
