No, else there'd be no winners in sport. In most sports you know which ones are likely to pick up on bad language, either turn the volume down or don't watch, if you don't like it.

I mean, prior to microphones in the boats during The Boat Race, how did people think the Cox got rowers motivated? Stump microphones in cricket picking up sledging? It's gone on forever.

Call you completely lacking in intuition but I had to Google who he was

My thoughts on sportsmen/women and whether they should be role models or sign up to some kind of code of conduct (beyond sticking to the rules of their sport) is a general one!

Anyway, Pool is a pub pastime, like snooker and darts, not a sport

Yanks are getting spanked again ! Seriously pool snooker and darts all deserve respect when played at a high level....I mean darts is as hard as archery ...world class pool is as hard as any other sport played in high temperature with immense pressure on every shot.

Earl is bi polar, and it manifests in high pressure situations.

He also gets frustrated when people don't take pool as seriously as he takes it. It is his whole life.

Anyway, who would want him to change, he is a fantastic player, and his outbursts only add to the atmosphere

ohh ..that explains alot ....had not realised he was but now you say that it does explain alot. He is a fantastic player and does 'lose it' very quickly and furiously whichi had not realised was down to such a syndrome. Thanks for the explanation

I dont know who Earl Strickland is or follow pool but as a general statement I love it when a sportsmen has an outburst, shows passion and character, and god knows there's a lack of interesting characters in modern sports.

I don't reallt go along with them being role models first and foremost, fair enough it should always be their aim but they're extremely focused individuals whose goal is to win in high pressure situations and it sometimes boils over into something that can be perceived as negative.

They're only human after all.

i agree that all sportsmen and women should not be held up as role models and passion is a good trait to have however this was slightly different in that it was 'f*ck this...f*ck that' each time a shot never went as intended but the eplanation above may be the reason for this

Whoever this guy is in the world of pool I think he's wrong, sometimes foul language comes with aggression (Im not saying I agree with it) but pool isnt known for its aggression really, well unless it all kicks off down The Dog and Duck that is

Earl is known for his aggression, but put into context, everyone who plays pool at a pro level, especially in the USA, gets to that level by hustling, playing in dodgy bars for high stakes, getting beat up, I think Earl has even been shot at. He takes that mentality into tournaments.

Earl himself is more or less bankrupt, when not playing tournaments, he lives on Queens, New York hustling for money.

I ain't going to tell him to stop swearing, I guess what the answer would be

blimey rest of team USA at it now ' what the f*ck was that shot about ' ...not even issued with a warning ...unless the whole team are bipolar i dont really understand why they are allowed to get away with this ....i cant imagine it being allowed at the crucible in snooker !

Is it different from watching any football game? The microphones don't pick up the players 'effing and jeffing' usually but you can tell what they are saying.
